Tell us a little about yourself. I live in Louisville, serve as an assistant pastor at Auburndale Baptist Church, and am a Doctor of Ministry student at Southern Seminary. I'm married to my wife of 6 years, and have 4 children.
What was your motivation behind this project? I did a master's degree on Flavel that was published and wanted to invite readers to learn from his piety in this series.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? It's my hope that Christians will understand the seriousness of sanctification.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Different areas of sin were exposed in my life, as I worked through Flavel's material. It was the second time reading through his 6 volume works, and he consistently drove me back to the Bible and prayer.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Flavel, obviously, along with other English Puritans, Jonathan Edwards, and later in 19th c. America, Archibald Alexander. I read a good bit of D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones' sermons, as well. Besides historical influences, I read widely in systematic and biblical theology. My current Doctor of Ministry degree reading focuses on biblical counseling, so I read Jay Adams, Stuart Scott, Paul Tautges, Paul David Tripp, and David Powlison.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I thoroughly love my family! I hope to be a senior pastor in Kentucky one day.
