Publisher's Description

The last decade has shaken our trust in personal safety through terrorist attacks, school shootings, economic turmoil, and war. Our trust has been shattered in other areas as we have seen hypocrisy in governmental leaders as well as in the church.

We are looking for relationships that are authentic and full of life, but we have many questions in regard to faith, reason, suffering and even the person of Jesus himself. Author and speaker Dave Sterrett helps us answer these and other questions:

-Why Should I Trust Jesus when So Many Other Spiritual Paths Exist?
The foundation of trusting in Jesus is that he is true. But if absolute truth does not exist, then to say that "Jesus is the Truth" is a meaningless statement. Many definitions of truth fail, but a good definition of truth is "that which corresponds to reality"; simply put, truth is "telling it like it is."

-Why Should I Trust Jesus When All I Need to do is Trust Myself?
Human knowledge is real, but it has its limitations. Jesus, however, is all-knowing. He knows everything about me. He knows everything about you. He knows what you are thinking. He knows what you are feeling. He understands you better than you understand yourself! This is one of the many good reasons for us to pray to the Father in the name of the Son.

-Why Should I Trust Jesus in the Midst of Suffering and Death?
The ultimate foundation of Christianity is a historical event: the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. A man who walked this earth in history claimed to be God, died on the cross, and bodily rose from the dead.

Many people in today’s culture, both Christians and non-Christians, have questions about why and how to trust Jesus. But there is hope! He is worthy of our trust.

Author Bio

DAVE STERRETT is a conference speaker and writer for a movement called I am Second. Along with ministering in churches, high schools, and college campuses, Dave serves as an adjunct professor of New Testament, Philosophy and Apologetics at Liberty University. In addition to the three book series, Coffee House Chronicles, Dave is the author of Why Trust Jesus? (Moody Publishers) and co-author of the book, "O" God, A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality.

Why Trust Jesus? by Dave Sterrett is a guide for those seeking answers to potentially difficult questions. It takes nine problems into consideration, beyond the central theme of why to trust Jesus Christ. These problems range from trusting God when you are dealing with death to dealing with failure. It also directly deals with why not to choose other religious options over Christianity. The author’s purpose is to persuade both believers and unbelievers that Jesus Christ is perfect, constant, and the only way to happiness. By defining the attributes of Jesus, Sterrett convinces his readers that Jesus is trustworthy through both good and bad times, including facing death.. Sterrett uses a lot of Bible verses to convince his reader, such as citing Luke 23:4 and Deuteronomy 32:4 to show Jesus was flawless and perfect. In addition, he uses several verses to show that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. He takes advantage of other wise writers as well, such as C.S. Lewis and St. Augustine. He also uses modern voices, such as statements from Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan. The book is well organized in presenting greatly thought-out arguments and clear responses, such as why you should trust Jesus when life seems to be going just fine. It uses multiple sources as bases for the conclusion to the problem of trusting Jesus. The author’s credentials are a combination of his work with Probe Ministries, his endless involvement as a youth leader, and his experience in teaching subjects such as Christ-centered living and apologetics. Sterrett is clever in explaining how to talk to skeptics, agnostics, and philosophers. For example, he says that if someone says, “Nothing is absolutely true,” one could reply, “Is that absolutely true?” The nine predicaments of trusting Jesus are the foundations of showing Christians and non-Christians that Jesus is the only way to righteousness, and Christ must be trusted through thick and thin. Sterrett analyzes other worldviews as a way of revealing their flaws and showing that Christian theism is the only way. This book gives ammunition to Christians who wish to defend the deity of Jesus through faith, logic, history, philosophy, and rhetoric. Admittedly, the topics tend to overlap in the various sections, which the author says is for emphasis, but other than that, it is well written, practical, and insightful. I highly recommend this book. – Salisha Hill, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

This concise book was written to examine and answer many of the most common questions, doubts and fears expressed by both Christians and non-believers. The author Dave maintains a great balance in his sources, using logic to reason from Scripture, history, philosophy, science, and personal experience to provide clear and relevant answers for these questions. It is also evangelical and even devotional at times.

Although the book is built around these common questions, the scope is actually much further reaching. In examining these uncertainties and doubts, Dave blends an assortment of classic apologetic arguments, sample conversations, and personal antidotes that make for a very engaging reading experience, and will equip the reader to be able to apply these principles to these and other questions that sometimes occur in a wide variety of situations.

We recommend this book for all levels of readers, both believers and non-believers. I believe the primary benefactors will be the doubters who are honestly searching for the truth about Christianity, and the newer Christians who would need answers to the difficult questions in order to strengthen their faith and be equipped to discuss these issues with others. The book also makes a great review and reference for experienced apologists, and the short concise chapters and the very economical price make it ideal for Bible study classes.

Why Trust Jesus by Dave Sterrett reveals truths about the charcter and nature of Jesus Christ. The book is divided into a series of chapters which focus on the very character of Christ- sharing personal struggles, disappointments and solid Biblical truths and evidence as to the resurrection and life of Christ. Both spiritual seekers and Christ followers can benefit from the arguments presented which defend the trustworthyness of Jesus.

In my own walk with the Lord, I strive to love the Lord with all of my heart and soul, but often neglect to love Him with all of my mind as well. I have read the Bible and strive to live according to the teachings of Jesus, but do not have answers to many questions that arise. By using scripture, literary evidence and historical documents, Sterrett provides tools to the reader that aid in understanding His faithfulness. For example, one can read the Bible and share his or her faith upon personal testominies and experiences. However, Sterrett takes it one step further... explaining the faults of pantheism, problems associated with the Gnostic gospels and reliable historical facts regarding the resurrection and divine nature of Christ. Throughout the book, the character of God is revealed to be soverign and in control... no matter what circumstance may arise.

Why Trust Jesus acknowledges and proves the truthworthy being of Christ. My favorite aspect of the book is how Sterrett incorporates both personal stories, as well as historical truths. The genuine and bold faith of the author is expressed through his writings. I am thankful for the truths revealed and explained in Why Trust Jesus.
