Product Description

Integrating art into your homeschool should be fun!

Home Art Studio homeschool art curriculum DVDs are designed to increase students' love and appreciation for the visual arts while providing an opportunity to improve their abilities to problem-solve, think creatively, and express themselves artistically. Art history lessons are also integrated throughout, as well as cross-curricular suggestions for math and social studies. Students are introduced to drawing, painting, and sculpting, while lessons emphasize how art is everywhere.

Just one lesson per week will allow you to complete the program in less than a year. You simply need to provide the supplies! Lesson plan PDF documents are included on the DVD-ROM to help teachers make the most of each lesson-time. Easy-to-follow lessons are age-appropriate and concepts are reinforced in later grades; students may work at their own pace without any fear of falling behind. This program is perfect for parents who don't have a lot of art experience, but who want to ensure that their children receive a well-rounded arts education.

Fifth graders will have fun with the theme of "A Journey Under the Sea!" Each of the 13 projects relates to the world of the ocean and will help reinforce previously learned skills while teaching new art principles such as sketching, painting, sculpting, and printmaking. There's even a "field trip" to a professional artists' studio and an aquarium.

96 minutes on DVD-ROM. Grade 5.

If you are looking for some cute arts and crafts to do with your kids, this DVD is good. If you're looking for an art curriculum where your kids will learn art principles or go deeper than "Draw the swirls and paint them," look somewhere else. Also, we have only been doing the DVD once a week for about five weeks and are already over halfway finished with the DVD. It doesn't last anywhere NEAR a year. The artwork is cute and fun, but for a real art lesson we will have to look elsewhere.

Q: Modesty? I hate to be nit-picky, but after that preview, I have to ask if the teacher (who seems very sweet) wears the same type of "peek a boo" clothing on the other videos. I'm a female, and my eyes were "drawn" toward her shirt and not the art. So I'm worried about my son watching this. I'm not asking anyone to judge, but I need to know if there will be any more clevage in the 5th grade DVDs?

A:

The preview you are referring to is a promotional video. In the actual teaching videos Lindsey's clothing is very modest. She also wears an apron, as shown in the product trailer.
