"The first chapter alone is worth reading many times. This is beauty and struggle. This is the death that leads to life. John Ortberg, author of Faith and Doubt and If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat
"Once again, Gary Thomas challenges me to live passionately for God and to apply his transforming power to my daily decisions." Kay Warren, executive director, HIV/AIDS Initiative, Saddleback Church, and author of Dangerous Surrender
DanAge: 45-54Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5A great book!September 6, 2012DanAge: 45-54Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I recommend this book to anyone serious about experiencing a living faith. The author does a great job of explainning how Christians can live a transformed life. Gary Thomas helped me to understand that the main "thing" is to have Christ living in and through us. Through us God blesses those around us and brings glory to his name.
Joshua Herod5 Stars Out Of 5May 19, 2010Joshua HerodGary's one of my new favorite authors. Every one of his books is challenging, fresh, and spot-on. I've read this book several times with other folks I was discipling. It's great because it works well with new believers or with long-time Christians who have become stagnant. I'm currently using it in my small group and seeing great things from it. It's very engaging, readable and I just love the very practical way he approaches "full-bodied faith." It used to be titled "The Beautiful Fight." Holy Available is probably more appropriate, but the content is the exact same. It has discussion questions in the back for each chapter, that are useful for group discussions. I highly recommend to anyone!
Mark Reeder5 Stars Out Of 5December 1, 2009Mark ReederI believe every Christian should read this book. Gary Thomas does an amazing job balancing truths that Christians seem to always want to take to the extreme. You will be challenged by this book, but in a very good way.
Johnny Emmons5 Stars Out Of 5August 15, 2009Johnny EmmonsJust finishing this book and will start back reading it again. God has given Gary such insight on many areas of christian living. We (the church in the west) like the Jews before us haven't liked human effort in the things of God, but we have not impacked our world the way the Lord wills for us to. God uses Gary to bring together human effort and the power of God to transfrom us. I pray that many will read and begin or step futher on the jorney before us.
Virginia Knowles5 Stars Out Of 5May 22, 2009Virginia KnowlesYes, this is the same as The Beautiful Fight. Gary Thomas has done it again. This is a thought-provoking and encouraging book that I go back to over and over. I quote it often in my own online writings and even wrote a poem based on it. Highly recommended! (Make sure you get Gary's other books, too. They are all different!)
