Sproul explains, "How we understand the person and character of God the Father affects every aspect of our lives....God is inescapable. There is no place we can hide from Him. Not only does He penetrate every aspect of our lives, but He penetrates it in his majestic holiness. Therefore we must seek to understand what the holy is. We dare not seek to avoid it. There can be no worship, no spiritual growth, no true obedience without it. It defines our goal as Christians. God has declared, "Be holy, because I am holy" (Lev. 11:44). To reach that goal, we must understand what holiness is."
Allow one of the all-time classic works on God's character to guide you more deeply into the presence of God as you respond to God's holiness. This edition of Sproul's work includes challenging study questions for individuals or small groups.

SproulFebruary 7, 2018WickEvansville, IndianaAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5R.C. Sproul, the founder of Ligonier Ministries, says that The Holiness of God is what he recommends first when people ask him what Ligonier book they should use to help them grow. Jerry Bridges, author of The Pursuit of Holiness, says, "Every Christian who is serious about his or her growth needs to read The Holiness of God." I say that I should have read (or listened to the nine-hour audiobook) The Holiness of God years ago. This 240-page work was first published by Tyndale House in 1984 and is considered a modern classic on the subject of God's holy character. You will find KJV, NKJV, NASB, and NIV Bible verses throughout the 11 chapters. Some of the chapter titles include The Holy Grail, The Insanity of Luther, God in the Hands of Angry Sinners, War and Peace with a Holy God, and Holy Justice. In these 11 chapters, Sproul gives us the proper perspective on God's awesome holiness. He reminds us that God is to be feared and revered and not treated simply as our buddy. Each chapter begins with a quote, and a few questions are provided at the end of each chapter. If you read Sproul's foundational piece, you will hopefully develop a stronger hunger to be holy like God.

In my discipling this is the first book I give to folks. It is the definitive treatment of a very neglected subject. My love for this book is exceeded only by the Bible itself.

NickAge: 18-24Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent!March 5, 2012NickAge: 18-24Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Expands your perception of what God's holiness really entails. Seems to go off on tangents at times, but it then brings right back around to the main point and explaining it all with easy understanding. A must read for every believer and definitely for new believers who really want to look at God with the right mindset. He is more than love, more than power, more than awesome. He is holy, holy, holy.
Kim Casey5 Stars Out Of 5Good for the thinking survivorsOctober 25, 2010Kim CaseyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I picked up this book 2 years ago aiming to understand God's greatness. I was also reading The Wounded Heart for survivors of abuse. Yes, I've struggled with doubts, anger and injustice. I was surprised how Sproul helped me in my journey of healing. I appreciate his logical approach to faith with the assumption that not all readers have unquestioning faith. (even Sproul). I also learned the value of God's name and using it properly.
