Though this is an older work, I was introduced to it a few years back in Bible College, by a godly professor. The readings required made a lasting impression on my mind, and I think it a good primer for understanding the Jewish culture--as I think it a wise proposition to understand the cultural context along with the biblical narrative. It can be a cumbersome--but fruitful read--as the notes (i.e., methodology) may be a bit distracting to a modern reader.Schurer's works--along with more modern archaeological findings--are an excellent cultural overlay--to enhance the cultural color of the text.

Hengelo OV, The NetherlandsAlthough a little dated, the book has very much details. I never knew most of the background items. The price is very low.

This is an excellent reference work. It is very informative and helpful for any student of the New Testament and early church.
