    The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments. - Habakkuk 3:19 -

    There are days when we, believers of the Lord Jesus Christ, face difficulties. . .sorrows. . .pain. . .trials. . persecution. . .but it's how we react to these things that makes us either stronger in our walk with Him or causes us to stumble and fall away. While reading this book I was reminded time and time again that God is INDEED MY STRENGTH just as Habakkuk says. The journey of Much-Afraid takes the reader on an incredible journey. A journey of ups and downs, highs and lows, happy moments and sad days. This is what life is made up of and life is a journey, is it not, my friends?

    "Let us go down lower still,' the water seems to be singing so gladly, because it is hurrying to go down to the lowest place, and yet you are calling me to the Highest Place. What does it mean?" "The High Places," answered the Shepherd, "are the starting places for the journey down to the lowest place in the world. When you have hinds' feet and can go "leaping on the mountains and skipping on the hills,' you will be able, as I am, to run down from the heights in gladdest self-giving and then go up to the mountains again. You will be able to mount to the High Places swifter than eagles, for it is only up on the High Places of Love that anyone can receive the power to pour themselves down in an utter abandonment of self-giving." { Hinds' Feet on High Places - pg. 23 }

    Hinds' Feet on High Places is a beautiful love story that reminds us of the love the Lord has so freely bestowed upon us.

    Suddenly she understood. She was beholding a wondrous and glorious truth; "a great multitude whom no man could number: brought like herself by the King to the Kingdom of Love and to the High Places so that they could pour our their lives in gladdest abandonment, leaping down with him to the sorrowful, desolate places below, to share with others the life which they had received. She herself was only one drop among the glad, exultant throng of Self-givers, the followers of the King of Love, united with him and with one another, each one equally blessed and beloved as herself. "For he loves each one of us,"she said to herself, "as though there were only one to love." { Hinds' Feet on High Places - Pg. 127 }

    I received a copy of this book from Tyndale for my honest and sincere thoughts on Hannah Hurnard's book she wrote many years ago. With it's updated look and illustrations it's hard not to put this book down at all. I have been reading this book and am amazed by how she wrote this book. I think it's a perfect picture of the Christian walk.

    John records Jesus saying, "Do you finally believe? But the time is comingindeed its here nowwhen you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world" (John 16:31-33, New Living Translation).

    All of us in our Christian walks experience a level of pain, discomfort, persecution and all sorts of troubles, but how we react and act to things show and develop Christ in us. If I chose, all the time, to do things my way rather than God's way in my life, I would believe I'd end up bitter, sorrowful, resentful and many negative things that would keep me from Him healing my wounds. But day by day I do those things I believe He'd want me to do. It means laying down who I think and believe I am for His sake, His honor, and His glory.

    I don't know how Hannah came up with this story during her fifty year ministry in Israel. That's not for me to know. What I can say is that it's a truly beautiful story about how the Christian life is lived by those who follow Christ with utter abandonment. I loved this book and will treasure it as I do my own Bible. Thank you Tyndale for this copy to review!

    I read Hinds' Feet on High Places in the early 90's, and it quickly became my favorite book. I think I've read at least five times, probably more. Being asked to read this beautiful book was a treat having loved the book. The story is still as beautiful as ever. The illustrations are gorgeous.

    This is written in devotional form giving you room to write notes and there is even coloring pages in the back. This would be a perfect Christmas gift for anyone on your Christmas list.

    I received a copy of this book through Tyndale Blog Network, in exchange for an honest review. Thought's and opinions expressed are my own.

    I've heard it said multiple times that life is a journey. It's a journey of highs and lows, ups and downs, happy, and sad, good and bad. There are seasons of plenty and seasons that leave you downright exhausted. As a believer in Jesus, there is always the firm foundation of the Bible to go back to and reference. Sometimes I forget about this solid ground and try to get through life all by myself. But this is never the case for Christians. I am thankful for books like Hind's Feet on High Places to remind me of the fact that I need to rely on God.

    The original book was printed in 1975, and I know my mom owned a copy of it back in the day. This new updated book is part story and part journal with beautiful artwork throughout. It also includes focal scripture verses that can be colored.

    "The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places." Habakkuk 3:19

    ~This verse is the premise of the story told in the book.

    ** "Every circumstance in life, no matter how crooked and distorted and ugly it appears to be, if it is reacted to in love and forgiveness and obedience to your will can be transformed. Therefore I begin to think, my Lord, you purposely allow us to be brought into contact with the bad and evil things that you want changed." **

    Tyndale House, through its Living Expressions Collection, has re-released the classic "Hinds' Feet on High Places: An Engaging Visual Journey" by Hannah Hurnard, illustrated by Jill DeHaan and Rachel McNaughton.

    Originally published in 1955, "Hinds' Feet" is an allegory describing God's deep love for us, and His desire to perfect us and bring us into his loving kingdom. It tells the story of Much-Afraid, who is full of fears, and is crippled and disfigured. She desires to travel with the Shepherd to the High Places, a land full of love, healing, forgiveness, redemption and perfection.

    As she travels with companions Sorrow and Suffering through areas like the Desert, Shores of Loneliness, Forests of Danger and Tribulation, and Valley of Loss, Much-Afraid must learn to not only trust in the Shepherd, but trust in herself while she fights off the temptations of her cousins Pride, Resentment, Bitterness, Self-Pity and Craven Fear.

    "Hinds' Feet" is a beautiful love story that reminds us to turn to God while we strive for the "High Places" -- a place where no fears are able to live because perfect love casts out fear and everything else that torments. However, it reminds us that we sometimes must go through the low places before we can reach the high places.

    Featuring many passages from the Bible (in the King James Version), its title is also taken from the Scriptures -- Habakkuk 3:19 and Psalm 18:33. It also features several characters from the Bible, and refers to incidents that incur in the Bible.

    Tyndale House's newest version of "Hinds' Feet on High Places" is a beautifully illustrated book containing gorgeous watercolor paintings, photography, and hand-lettered Scripture verses, as well as areas where you can journal answers to personal questions and reflections. In the back it also features "blank" hand-lettered Scripture pages that allow you to try your own hand at coloring and illustrating a beautiful piece of art.

    The end of the book also includes a brief autobiography of the author, as well as "Lessons Learned on the Slopes of the High Places," describing Hurnard's inspiration that led to her High Places.

    Some helpful definitions to remember, provided by Merriam-Webster, include: hind is "the female of the red deer" and allegory means "the expression by means of symbolic fictional figures and actions of truths or generalizations about human existence."

    This is a beautiful book that would be great to give as a gift, or to keep for oneself.

    Five stars out of five.
