I have only read book one of this series, yet did not have any trouble enjoying An Ivy Hill Christmas.
The author did a great job showing how the main character, Richard, changed so much from the self-centered man that he was at the beginning of the story. It was neat to be able to walk through this novel and see as his eyes were opened as to how he needed to treat people, what true forgiveness is, and the true significance of Christmas.
ashreadsandtravels4 Stars Out Of 5Cozy, Historical ReadDecember 14, 2020ashreadsandtravelsI'll preface this review by saying that I did not read the others in the Ivy Hill series. Yet. That being said, I love so much how Julie's writing pulls me into the family dynamics and the setting. I felt the cold, I felt the tension between the characters, and I felt like I wanted to be cozied up to the fire as it all happened in front of me.
Richard seems like a spoiled son of the gentry. He's aimless and has yet to settle down. He decides to leaves London and go home for Christmas. Not is as it appears to be, both with Richard and with his family.
This read as a novel despite it's shorter length. I can always count on Julie to deliver a heart-warming historical read.
Thank you to Bethany House and NetGalley for an advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
kathaeFront Royal, VAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Regency ChristmasDecember 13, 2020kathaeFront Royal, VAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This has been a highly-anticipated book, and I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to read it. An Ivy Hill Christmas is a novella that readers of Klassen's Tales from Ivy Hill series will love, as they visit this lovely English country village again. This novella does stand alone, and is totally enjoyable for readers who want to immerse themselves in all the glory of a Regency Christmas.
Most of the characters seem familiar and easy to get along with, and I loved all the charity and concern for others that the Ivy Hill residents exhibited. But then there's Richard. A rogue. A playboy. A Scrooge. Klassen didn't waste any time in making me dislike him. But as he got out of London and spent time in the country with his family and friends at Christmas, there was a transformation. It was subtle and gradual, which made it meaningful.
I recommend this book for those who enjoy Regency romances, or someone who wants a good Christmas read. Enjoy!
I received an e-ARC of this book from the author, through Celebrate Lit, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.
Mrs ARS4 Stars Out Of 5A visit back to Ivy HillDecember 13, 2020Mrs ARSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5It was nice to visit Ivy Hill again and especially at Christmas time. This is the story of Richard Brockwell who is living a rather pointless life, especially as seen from the outside looking in. He is in fact an aspiring author but he has yet to be published. In the beginning we see that he is a little bit of a foolish man. But it will take the right amount of Christmas cheer, family, old acquaintances, and a surprise love to help him become a much better man.
Arabella Awdry is a woman who has decided to not marry. Especially if she cannot find a love like her parents had. She certainly is not interested in Richard Brockwell and his rakish ways. However, these two meet again at a Christmas house party and after all the faade is stripped away, can actually see the real person and what a true love might look like.
This was a deep story for a bit of a shorter book. I enjoyed the interactions of everyone and I always find house parties in Victorian times enjoyable to read about. I was glad to visit Ivy Hill again.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

While this is a short book it still holds a fun story line. I love the cover! Arabella is a great character but it took me awhile to warm up to Richard Brockwell. It was fun to read some Christmas traditions. I think that is what really made this book all the better is the historical aspect of it. There is some romance of course but the pages just flow together nicely to make up a cozy winter read. If you enjoy Klassen's timeless novels this book will make a great addition to your collection.
