Publisher's Description

When Saudi Prince Omar bin Talal visits Houston to seek cancer treatment for his mother, an attempt on his life puts all agencies on high alert. FBI Special Agent Kord Davidson is the lead on the prince’s protective detail because of their long-standing friendship, but he’s surprised—and none too happy—when the CIA brings one of their operatives, Monica Alden, in on the task force after the assassination attempt.

Kord and Monica must quickly put aside interagency squabbles, however, when they learn the prince has additional motives for his visit—plans to promote stronger ties with the US and encourage economic growth and westernization in his own country. Plans that could easily incite a number of suspects both in the US and in countries hostile to Saudi Arabia. Worse yet, the would-be assassin always seems to be one step ahead of them, implicating someone close to the prince—or the investigation. But who would be willing to commit high treason, and can Kord and Monica stop them in time?

Editorial Reviews

Mills introduces readers to stubborn but dedicated FBI Special Agent Kord Davidson in this formulaic Christian thriller. Saudi Prince Omar and his entourage of family members and diplomats are in Houston when an assassin makes an attempt on Omar’s life. Kord, who has grown close to Omar over years of service protecting him and other visiting dignitaries for the FBI, wants to handle the situation and find the would-be assassin on his own, so when CIA agent Monica Alden is assigned as his partner, he is less than pleased, even if he recognizes her charm. Monica, meanwhile, was betrayed by her previous partner and is reluctant to trust anyone. Though she slowly begins to respect Kord, they have big differences: she is a “follower of Jesus,” and Kord is a nonbeliever. But he is a searcher who contemplates spirituality, and Monica just might be the “voice of an angel” Kord needs. The moment Kord’s resentment turns to admiration, Monica wonders, along with the reader, “Where did this about-face come from?” Often, the writing relies on simplistic descriptions (Monica looks “like a J. Crew model”) and quick dialogue, and the characters are a jarring mix of bravado and sensitivity. Although predictable, this suspenseful novel will appeal to Christian readers looking for a tidy, uplifting tale.
In this third book in Mills’ action-packed FBI Task Force series, the stakes are higher than ever. Compelling characters and a riveting plot that fits seamlessly with current events make this novel impossible to put down. Readers can count on being glued to the pages late into the night—as “just one more chapter” turns into “can’t stop now.” Mills does an excellent job crafting Monica as a strong heroine with a heart (an excellent counterpart to Kord’s more jaded side), as well as an equal (if not stronger) investigative partner. The tension between the Saudi and American characters is handled respectfully, focusing on the common ground without apology for the differences. Faith plays an important role and is integrated naturally into the plot, although a conversion feels somewhat abrupt. The romance needed a bit more transition between “wary” and “kissing,” but the suspense is flawlessly crafted and engaging.
Seeking cancer treatment in the United States for his mother should have been uneventful for Prince Omar bin Talal. But now his bodyguard is dead, and the prince is hiding another agenda that seems likely to get him and his sisters killed.

FBI Special Agent Kord Davison and CIA Agent Monica Alden are assigned to a special task force to keep Prince Omar safe. Can they do that effectively when the interagency animosity between them is so evident?

Mills has brought cultural and spiritual differences to life. Her characters, along with their real-life struggles, will bring an instant connection to readers. Her expertise in story development guarantees High Treason will end up as a favorite.

The newest book in the FBI Task Force series by DiAnn Mills, High Treason provided a great premise that can come straight from current headlines of the nightly news. You can appreciate the research in this story with the cultural differences being such a big part of the storyline. Strong characters, that have major trust issues, are expected to work as a team. Great relationship aspects are woven in, both work and personal. You have the suspense, action, and of course, the plot twists that DiAnn Mills expertly includes. I loved this book with all the mystery and intrigue. This can be read as a stand alone if you have not read the two previous books in this series. Though I recommend reading them all. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author. All opinions are solely my own.

    High Treason

    FBI Task Force #3

    By DiAnn Mills

FBI Special Agent Kord Davidson and CIA operative Monica Alden are less than pleased when an attempt on the life of Saudi Prince Omar bin Talal forces interagency cooperation with them working together. Kord knows that the Prince will not appreciate a woman on his protection detail. And Monica prefers working alone especially after an unfortunate incident in the past.

Hoping to slow the cancer that is threatening his mother's life Prince Omar bin Talal, along with two of his sisters, has come to Houston seeking medical treatment. But the visit is two-fold as the Prince hopes to bolster US-Saudi relations while decreasing his country's dependence on the oil export market. Unfortunately, someone seems determined to stop him and they don't care who gets caught in the crossfire.

The only question is who is behind this attack - is it internal or external? And will foreign relations deteriorate before the truth can be uncovered? As Kord and Monica work together, the list of who they can trust grows shorter. But with cultural factors in play uncovering who they can trust may be almost impossible. Kord depends on his years of friendship with the Prince while Monica depends upon her quick analytical thinking and her personal distance from all involved.

With clues and evidence, Kord and Monica make progress but some things just aren't adding up to a complete picture. Time is against them as the would-be-assassin stays one step ahead of them. With Monica looking at those closest to the Prince and Kord looking beyond they hope to meet dead center before all involved are dead.

High Treason has it all - weather, cultural distrust, interagency positioning, betrayal, romance, illness, secrets. This case may force all involved to see beyond what they know in order to wrap it up with a minimum of loss of life.

Those familiar with DiAnn Mills will feel right at home from the opening page. And someone will get the girl this time she has choices. Faith is an important facet of Monica's life while Kord is searching. It is interesting to see how Prince Omar bin Talal and his family and staff deal with Western living and specifically Monica. If you want suspense this book will give it to you and just may be a hindrance to sleep at least until the last page is turned.

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary review copy of this book with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am always impressed with Mills ability to not only shock me with her unique plots full of great twist, but also with the amount of detail she puts into her books. High Treason is full of such detail as Kord and Monica deal with a Saudi Prince, his family, and all their beliefs about women and the rules around them. Not once did the book ignore the complexity of the Saudi culture to make the investigation easier. An amazing novel that is definitely worth reading.

Another gripping book by DiAnn Mills. I found the plot very interesting dealing with a Saudi Prince in Texas and a female CIA agent brought in to work with the FBI agent. I enjoyed the twists and turns. I liked seeing how a Christian deals with being in a tough profession. You won't be disappointed with this book and trying to figure out who the bad guys are.

This is book three in the FBI Task Force series, however they are all stand alone novels. If you enjoy reading FBI type, suspense, mystery type books you will like this one. It will keep you guessing. DiAnn Mills knows how to develop her characters and make them seem real. This novel is full of international issues, friendship, loyalty and so much more.

Some of the characters are a little hard to figure out, yet it adds to the mystery. Kord and Monica have a fire and ice type connection that only gets better and better. When faced with international problems they must work together and put aside other issues to find who is out hunting the Prince.
