Publisher's Description

A revealing study into the relationship between psychology and the arts.

Anton Ehrenzweig's tour de force describes nothing less than the psychology of artistic creativity. Focusing on the visual arts and music, he shows that, in addition to conscious, intellectual critical powers, both the child and the creative artist rely on an unconscious, intuitive critical process to give shape to their view of the world.

Author Bio

Anton Ehrenzweig abandoned a career as a lawyer after fleeing Austria after the Anschluss. He studied law, psychology and art in Vienna and settled in England in 1938. He was a lecturer at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He wrote numerous books, but is best known for THE HIDDEN ORDER OF ART, which has been in continuous publication since 1967, and is considered a classic of its genre.
