The commercialization and materialism that has taken over Christmas takes away from the meaning of the coming of

God's Son to earth. Hello !!! It's about H I M , not about us !!! Timothy Keller states, "Christmas is a wonderful SECULAR

holiday." So it has become. He also states, " Jesus comes as the LIGHT, because we are too spiritually BLIND to find our

own way. HOW TRUE ! And, HE is a LIGHT for us when all other lights go out ! A Son has been given because we are so lost

and so unable to save ourselves, that nothing less than the death of the Son of GOD Himself could save us. Jesus said,

" To this end was I born and for this cause came I into the world," ( John 18:37 ) He was born for a cross for you, and for me.'

I bought several copies of this book and gave it to those who would welcome it and some who might not.

Greatly enjoyed this short text on Christmas. Interesting insights on the key figures of this event. Helped to keep this holiday in perspective and celebrate the real reasons for this season.

An elderly woman in our congregation, in talking about how important this book was to her, said, "For a number of years, I have felt so lonely and sad at Christmas, but this book reminds me of the true joy of Christmas." Our study group seemed surprised at every turn by Keller's insights.

Keller is always insightful; explaining familiar Scripture with a warm, personal understandong that seems so obvious after he explains it. If you are already a fan of Tim Keller, you will not be disappointed. If you have never read his work, this is a good beginning.

A very good book--just the kind to read in preparation for a true celebration of Christmas (but it would be good to read at any time).
