Product Description

Pediatrician and bestselling author Meg Meeker has a message: Stop undervaluing fatherhood. We live in a culture that hails motherhood as a woman's crowning achievement yet defines men first and foremost by their professional accomplishments, treating fatherhood as almost an incidental bonus. But from her years spent as a pediatrician listening to children's needs and fears, Dr. Meeker understands just how crucial a father's role is. Hero is a powerful affirmation of fatherhood that shows men how being a strong, active father can be their greatest triumph.

This looks a good book. I'm a father and, obviously, the son of my father. I actually think we've made some progress in re-evaluating fathers and fatherhood, but yes, we still have a long way to go. My character, Hoppway, is on a long journey back to his mother. He doesn't know where his father is, and that's another story. He's been raised largely by his grandmother, who, like the author's father, has books from which one pulls the occasional volume, and finds a quote. To quote Michael Corleone, "My father taught me many things. He taught me right here in this room." The "this room" is everywhere; the hospital room where the author's father lay dying, a room at home where you remember him, or the open countryside where he taught you to shoot. Fathers and their children never stop teaching, and learning from, each other. @hoppway
