LaToya5 Stars Out Of 5Great Message!September 23, 2011LaToyaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I LOVED the message of this book: God loves you just the way you are. Don't worry if you feel different from everyone else, God isn't through with you. The message of God's love and acceptance is on every page of this story as Hermie deals with feeling common. My boys (5 and 2) loved every single page and so did their Mama! My youngest immediately asked to read it again. I've looked at the age recommendations for this book and it says 4-8. I think this is a book that everyone would love, especially elementary aged children.
Max Lucado did an excellent job with this book. The pictures are beautiful and really add to the story. The message is loud and clear and my boys were able to get it right away. We had a nice conversation about how different we all are but how God has a plan for each of us. And how He (like Mama) loves us just the way we are. -
BethAzusa, CAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Children's BookSeptember 19, 2011BethAzusa, CAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Hermie: A Common Caterpillar by Max Lucado is a children's book with colorful illustrations. It is available in ebook form, paperback, hardcover and as a board book. The book consists of level two reading words and short sentences. I agreed to write a review in exchange for the book from BookSneeze.com.
The reader is introduced to Hermie and his friend, Wormie, who wish they had stripes, spots or even a shell to make them special. However, through their time in prayer, God reminds them that they are loved and He isn't finished with them. It is not hard to imagine what God is doing in Hermie the caterpillar and by the end, the reader is able to rejoice with Hermie at his transformation.
I enjoyed this book and read it to some young children. It kept their attention throughout the entire story, and they said they enjoyed it. I love the message that though we are average or ordinary, the Lord is still at work, even when we don't see it, and He will continue to work until we have become who He has intended us to be. I would recommend this book for preschools, churches or homes that wish to incorporate Christian concepts into their curriculum or lives. -
Homelife JourneyPhilippinesAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A great book to teach kids about God.September 16, 2011Homelife JourneyPhilippinesAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Hermie, A Common Caterpillar is a children's book that will surely appeal to both parents and kids alike. The main theme was on teaching the kids to trust God's love and His perfect plan for each one. Max Lucado was able to present Biblical truths in a way that speaks to the kid reader clearly. This is a great one for parents to read to their kids and one which beginning readers can read with ease.
My 7-year old loves reading this book over and over again. The sentences were short and the thought was clearly presented in the illustrations which were colorful and 'cute' as my kids would say. Most of all, the message of trusting God to reveal his plan for each one was learned by my kids. Life is a journey and those who put their trust in God are assured of His eternal love and that He has a wonderful plan which is unique for each of His children. The book also emphasized the importance of communing with God and opening up to Him even our 'insecurities' as He is always ready to listen. I strongly recommend this book to parents who are looking for a great read for their kids.
