KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Awesomesauce!January 26, 2018KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5An emotionally consuming story that celebrates the depths of a mother's sacrificial love. Honestly, my heart was in my throat the whole read. I just couldn't...even now I can't...because I was so furious on Josie's behalf. But then Cruz came on the scene and said everything I wanted to say and then some and delivered it with just the right amount of bite and compassion (which I wouldn't have done.) And if you're wondering who Cruz is -- he's the hero from book three of this Grace Haven series and what can I say? Once a hero always a hero. Cruz proved that here. I literally broke into my full Team Cruz cheer mode. Wooohoooo.
But that doesn't mean I'm not on Team Jacob too. Because I am. Wholeheartedly.( I'm fictionally fickle that way.) Jacob is kind, decent, hard-working and the most devoted Dad on the planet. Sweet perfection, right? Not if you're Josie because Jacob's little girl is the baby Josie gave up for adoption six years ago --- to a married couple. How'd that happen?! From the devious mind of Ruth Logan Herne, that's how. She's a wickedly conniving plotter so be prepared for copious twists and turns and a healthy dose of heart-wrenching.This author makes her hero and heroine work for their happily-ever-after and if you're not given to nail-biting and teeth-clenching you will be by the end of this book!
Talk about angst-riddled. But let's heap on a little more. Like the fact that Jacob's purpose in town is to close down Josie's restaurant. And if that isn't enough turmoil to go around, we have Josie trying hard to leave behind a past she's not proud of. And she's done a great job of creating something positive out of her life but, like so many of us, she has a hard time letting go of mistakes she knows God has already forgiven her for. It takes a hero with a pure heart and the ability to (finally) listen to God's prompting before she can finally let go and let God. And then, oh glory be, the blessings come pouring in!
JV5 Stars Out Of 5Love, Hope & Barbeque!!!January 16, 2018JVQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book brought SUNSHINE into my life! Hope from heartache! It is full of love, courage, and a precious, precocious little girl that will tug on your heartstrings! Oh, and Barbeque! Don't forget the Barbeque! (and Yes, I was actually really hungry for barbeque when I finished reading this book!) Way to go, Ms. Herne!

Josie Gallagher has been informed that a huge hotel chain is taking over the location of her restaurant, forcing its closing. Their man, Jacob Weatherly, tries to help her out, but she is so confused when she gets a look at his daughter. HER daughter, whom she gave up for adoption six years earlier. What is he doing with her child? What happened to her adoptive parents? Josie and Jacob begin to grow close, but it's obvious he knows nothing about Addie's parentage. Should Josie tell him? Secrets are always found out, aren't they?
Ruth Logan Herne has written a powerful story here. A story of characters so wonderful, and a situation so desperate at times that this reader wept through the last fourth of the book. I could feel every heartbreak and every joy of these folks. I loved this book! And the spiritual theme: God is always behind the scenes orchestrating our lives, no matter the heartbreak we endure at times, He always wants the best for us. Highly recommended.
*My thanks to the author for a preview copy of this book. My opinions are honest and entirely my own.
MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful and Uplifting Story filled with God's LoveJanuary 9, 2018MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5A hidden secret, a single dad and a sweet loving girl made this a wonderful and heartfelt story by beloved author, Ruth Logan Herne. Herne never fails to create a beautiful story with three dimensional characters that are facing true to life choices and heartbreaking circumstances. Josie Gallagher hasn't always made good choices but her Bayou Barbeque business was successful on the lake shore. How could she move forward when the multi-million Carrington Hotels and Inns had acquired her property and business? Then to top off Jacob Weatherly, project manager for Carrington, has her daughter that she had given up for adoption to a couple. There are many unexpected twists and turns in this amazing story that kept the pages turning. Little Adeline won my heart from the start with her love for life, depth and perception and a bright spot in the lives she was around. There's moments of laughter and others filled with tears during the hard times; however, a loving ending that will remain with readers (anyway it has with this reader). The beautiful message of God's goodness, grace, love and new beginnings in lives added depth and inspiration that nothing is impossible with God for His children. I encourage readers to order their copy and read this magnificent realistic story of second chances and families coming together with renewed hope, love, faith, and commitment to one another. I look forward to more true to life family stories by Herne. She never fails to take unfortunate incidents of her characters and pen a well loved story filled with moving past the difficult situations, loving family dynamics, commitment to assist others and God's love for each one.
Thank you to Ruth Logan Herne for a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write to write a positive review but have expressed my sincere thoughts.
Trixi4 Stars Out Of 5Her secret childJanuary 7, 2018TrixiQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5First of all, I don't normally care for secret baby/children themes in stories, because eventually those secrets come out and people get hurt. With that being said, we are talking about Ruth Herne here, and she writes some of the best stories out there! Solely based on the authors name alone did I read it and am so glad I gave this one a chance.
Josie Gallagher harbors a secret she's kept to herself for six years never thinking that it would come to light. When it does, it could have devastating consequences for all involved. She's also a woman who's built a new life from scratch for herself and made a name in the BBQ business. Some of the best in the country that is! Jacob Weatherly enters her life when his company forces her out of the prime spot on the waterfront for her business. Offering her a compromise that benefits both of them, how could she say no? Then add a precarious and innocent young Addie Weatherly who's world is about to be turned upside down. She's a delightful child full of fun & laughter and wants to see her daddy happy & married someday...oh and a cow in the backyard to boot!
All these factors add up to a whole lot of messy & sticky situations where life throws a bend in the road no one saw! Herne is a master at telling stories of real life messiness, where your heart is invested in the characters and wanting the very best for them in spite of the circumstances. She also over-laces everything with a generous sprinkling of God's grace & a whole lot of love. My heart leaps at seeing the character growth, stretching beyond what seems possible. But God is the God of impossibilities and the reader will find that in the pages of this book. I've also not read any of the other Grace Haven series books, but I found this to stand on it's own well. However, it definitely made me want to search out the previous stories so I can read the other characters stories & get the full picture feel of small town Grace Haven. If you like stories of restoration, redemption, grace, romance God's way, small town life and characters to call friends, then you will enjoy this one as much as I did. Herne's story worlds aren't to be missed in my opinion!
