Dru Porter is "tough girl" personified- an ex-marine with a calm confidence and overall superwoman capabilities. She's been assigned as a body guard to NFL superstar, Gray Fowler- bad boy, confident, and none to happy to have a woman "protecting" him. But the threatening messages Gray has been receiving require Gray's security detail to be escalated. Despite Gray's stubbornness, protests, and advances, Dru proves herself to be more than capable as Gray's protector. His seeming inability to charm and woo Dru's affections, along with the time spent getting to know the amazing woman beneath the tough veneer, begin to break down the barriers to Gray's heart. And although she's maintained a coolness toward him, Dru also begins having feelings for Gray that threaten her professional position. The two finally pursue a romantic relationship when Dru discharges herself from Gray's protection team. However, Gray's inability to move toward commitment and the continued threats against him create rifts between the couple that may be insurmountable.

In past books from the Porter family series where Dru has made an appearance, I wondered who could possibly be matched to Dru romantically because of her tough, kick-butt personality. Wade hit the nail on the head with a perfect match in Gray Fowler! Interactions between the two were amusing because of their strong spirits and opposing personalities. The romantic tension sensed early on transformed their professional interactions into a passionate, heated (yet clean) romance later on. Wade did a superb job of carrying their strong personalities throughout the plot creating two of the most endearing- and made for each other- characters in the series!

This is the fourth and last book in the Porter Family Series. Ive loved every book and I hate to see the series end. In Her One and Only, there are so many struggles that each character needed to work through. With every low point, I felt I was right there struggling along with each person and with the highs, I felt the joy of each one, alsoa bit of a roller coaster ride!

Gray is a wonderful hero and quite a counterpart to feisty Dru. They are both appealing and interesting characters. Of the books Ive read recently, Gray is definitely my favorite character.

If you like romance with depth and complexity, I recommend this series, and Her One and Only in particular.

Let me tell you something. Something I'm kicking myself for not being there already. How could I have not read any of Becky Wade's Porter Family series until this one, Her One and Only?! HOW?!!

Her One and Only is the perfect contemporary romance with just the right amount of lovey dovey, mixed in with some suspense and character development. Not to mention, the support of a great cast of family, friends and even nefarious villains. OK, maybe not that nefarious, but there are definitely some great characters you don't want to miss. And for a great romance, you'll need our main characters. In this story, we have Dru Porter. She makes me want to be HER.

"...she was, very simply, exactly who she was. Formidable. Like a female Old West sheriff come to life in this modern day. Girl power personified." (37)

And Gray Fowler, NFL superstar with playboy persona, and oh so confidently yummy.

" 'I got to where I am...by being determined...You're going to love me,' he said.

Oh, God, she prayed, needing steadying. She was outright terrified that he might be right." (196)

OK, maybe he's not particularly my type, but anyone can see (read) that he is definitely the one for Dru. Both with the need to find faith in God and their own happy ending, giving way to a connection that is beyond sizzling. Their attraction is undeniable, yet one also see their vulnerabilities, especially with Dru, and that's what makes her so attractive as a character. She's tough on the outside and to many, that may define her, but Gray sees more - who she is, and vice versa. Their easy and sometimes frustrating banter makes these two a fun pair.

In terms of characters, I must also bring up Meg. Her story line in Her One and Only resonated with me on a personal level, and really pulled at my heartstrings. Reading about how she grapples with trust in God makes it real. The pain she'd been through, along with the support of family had me praying for her even though she's just a character in a novel.

With humor and suspense, Becky Wade's Her One and Only grants readers the pleasure of finding a read that embodies emotional and spiritual growth, all combined perfectly.

Becky Wade has been a favorite author of mine since My Stubborn Heart. She instantly won my heart with her rich and honest stories of wounded souls and the enduring hope of the Healer.

Her One and Only is book 4 in the series. The long awaited wrap up to the family saga and the only girl in the family of rough and tumble boys. But Dru is no princess!

I absolutely LOVED the previous books in the series. Yet, this one fell very flat for me. I wholeheartedly recommend her series but cannot offer the same praise for Her One and Only. However there is a plot line in this book that follows up on Meg and Bo from book 1 Undeniably Yours.

First of all the characters were stereotypical. I loved the flip of a teeny-tiny woman decked out with killer bodyguard skills protecting a huge, muscled tight end football player. Chapter one page one and two go into detail that the irony isn't lost on Dru either. However beyond that flip and switch, everything falls very predictable after that. Gray, our football hero idolizes himself and all the female attention he receives on a daily basis. And Dru fights tooth and nail to be seen as "more than" her short stature and womanly figure.

I enjoyed the banter between the characters brought on by the way they saw themselves in contrast to each other. Yet Gray was hard to like. He baited her. He taunted her, all to prove he could get a reaction from any girl. So at times the talk between the two was inappropriate with sexual innuendos.

As is with good fiction, the main characters grow and mature as they face their issues and work through them. This is definitely the case with these characters and by the end of the book I could like and appreciate who Gray was. A part of that change for him is how his heart softened to Dru. At one point he made a bet with a fellow football player to see who could win Dru - who could get her to kiss him first. At first it was pure Neanderthal fun as the boys competed but a protective side soon came out of Gray. It redeemed his playboy qualities slightly but the novel definitely takes liberties to show his needs and urges in relation to women. Not unlike his football cohort.

I also struggled with the suspense aspect. The story opens with a prologue three months in the future. In all honesty if that hadn't been there I would not have finished the book. Because it was there I had a glimpse that something powerful was going to happen to peak the story. And I waited a lot of pages to get it. I just did not get pulled into the drama of the search for the stalker.

Yet for me the biggest distraction to the story was the sub plot of Meg and Bo's journey with infertility and loss. It was a great, inspiring story in every way but not here in this book. It needed its own title.

It pains me to write this review as I have adored all of Becky Wade's previous books. So, suffice it to say this one will not deter me from reading another book of hers in the future. And as always if I must deliver a low rating on a book I remind you that everyone has different likes. Please feel free to read other reviews to see other different reactions to this book.

Dru Porter is a personal protection agent who became too emotionally attached to her last assignment and is determined not to let that happen again. NFL superstar Gray Fowler sees his new bodyguard as another gorgeous woman to be conquered. You can imagine what kind of sparks are going to fly!

Drus character is intriguing, especially since she is a former Marine. She's always trying to prove herself so its interesting to see how her family dynamics work with three older brothers. Gray Fowler is a complex character. Hes a chauvinistic, spoiled and obnoxious famous athlete who has a tragic familial back story. Gray is the stereotypical football playertall, broad shouldered, and fabulously gorgeous to look at with an ego the size of a stadium.

With an engaging plot and vivid dialogue, the story moved at a fast pace. I truly enjoyed the suspense element! It was excellent from beginning to end. Ms. Wade is an expert at writing vivid imagery which usually makes for a delightful read. In Her One and Only, the romance went too far for my own personal taste. I thought there was an excess of physical desire between Dru and Gray, crossing over into lust. I realize this doesnt bother some readers, but it does me. Plus, I was hoping to see Gray make some serious spiritual changes sooner in the story but he didnt. By the time he did, it felt rushed and over too soon. I liked the story but I didnt love it. I will say that Ms. Wade knows how to weave a family drama and draw me into the lives of the characters, making me care about them. Ill definitely be on the lookout for her next book series.

I was provided a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. No compensation has been received.
