Hello, Tobi!

Andrea Cáceres is the creator of My Dog Just Speaks Spanish, her picture book debut. An author, illustrator, and art director, her work, much of it featuring dogs, has appeared in countless campaigns and commissions. Andrea Cáceres was born in Venezuela and is based in New York City.

Cáceres’s illustrations are two-dimensional and colorful, conveying effortlessly the loving feelings of the families depicted as well as their dogs. A sweet and deceptively simple story offers readers a new lens for looking at those they are familiar with as well as those who are different with an open heart.

Carefully considered and ebullient in emotion, Cáceres’ art is the real star. Digitally created with scribbled textures, hand-drawn patterns, and collage elements, the pages zing with energy, all originating in Tobi, the one goofy little pup who brings everyone together. Readers—especially dog lovers—will delight in this everyday slice of life.
