Paul Porter5 Stars Out Of 5Hell & Mr. FudgeFebruary 16, 2018Paul PorterQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5You can see that the film itself is on a lower budget...which is expected about a movie regarding hell. The reason why I bought the movie was because "hell" is my current study and will probably be my study for this entire year. I wanted to watch the movie to get a feel for the life of Mr. Fudge and where he came from as a person before I start reading his literature on the subject. Personally, I have not had my own "fully developed" view of hell other than its reality and saying that is at minimum relational separation from God...and that is not good remotely. I became very interested in this subject because of the bad exegesis and argumentation of the proponents of the Traditional View of Hell (eternal conscious torment). My experience in the biblical languages and historical context has led me into a deeper study into this issue. I have not determined my view on this topic yet, but the evidence for the Traditional View of Hell is very thin (coming from someone who has not held a firm and specific doctrine of hell). 100% of the "proof texts" cited as evidence for the Traditional View of Hell have assumptions inserted into the text...which should at least raise a red flag in your mind. If 100% of the "proof texts" insert assumptions, then the conclusion is very far from obvious. Looking at the reviews below will demonstrate my point. The Rich Man & Lazarus story/parable (depending on your judgment) takes place in Hades and not Hell...please read the Greek. Regarding what happens after the White Throne Judgment, they are cast into the Lake of Fire which is the second death...what does second "death" mean? When the phrase "eternal fire" comes up, you need to ask the question...where does it say in the text that what is thrown in the fire stays there and exists for eternity? The answer is nowhere...it is an assumption inserted into the text. What about the phrase "eternal punishment?" First, it says "punishment" as a noun and not "punishing" as a participle. Secondly, this phrase does not give us the nature of what the punishment is. What if I say the word "precipitation?" Without context or clarification, do you know that nature of the precipitation? I could be thinking of snow, rain, sleet, or hail. Same scenario regarding punishment...it could torture, death, or something else...the nature of "punishment" is not given. Finally, if death is the punishment, then how is that eternal--one might ask? There are several concepts in Christian theology that say eternal...like eternal judgment. Is eternal judgment God "judging those for an everlasting duration?" Well no. God judges and the effect of that judgment is eternal. Same could be said of punishment that its the effect that lasts for eternity...death (for eternity). What about the "worm doesn't die" in Mark 9? Jesus is quoting from Isaiah 66. The worms are on the corpses. A corpse is a dead body...not someone who is consciously existing for eternity...they are dead. Also, in 2 Thessalonians 1:9 it just says "from" and not "away from" in Greek. Revelation 14:11 is pretty much the only "token text" the Traditional View of Hell has. However, one must be careful when reading apocalyptic literature. Furthermore, cherry-picking this verse in the middle of John's vision doesn't help much when John's vision is interpreted as "second death." The nature of "second death" is very crucial in determining the truth of this debate. My long review is to clarify incorrect information and to point out the dismissive attitude toward the topic of the movie by the other reviewers who make claims without evidence defending their claims. Though I am not decided on this issue yet, the view of hell presented in this movie definitely belongs on the table and should be taken very seriously. The movie itself will point out a few things, but I encourage you to dig into this topic deeper if you can. Thanks.

Bob1 Stars Out Of 5DisapointedFebruary 3, 2018BobQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I would not recommend this DVD for anyone. It contradicts the Bible it at least two places: The Rich man and Lazarus - Luke 16:19-31 and The White throne Judgment - Revelation 20:11-15. I believe that it could cause people to stumble.
RichardDDobson@aol.com5 Stars Out Of 5Its a historical drama, not a lecture or sermonJanuary 26, 2018RichardDDobson@aol.comQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The movie accomplishes its purpose, telling the story of how Edward Fudge came to write the book he is known for. The purpose is not to defend his position on hell. His book does an excellent job of that. I recommend this to all who believe in the Bible as the final authority on the nature and duration of hell. The Fire That Consumes is an excellent commentary on the subject.
angeldust4 Stars Out Of 5Pretty goodDecember 12, 2017angeldustQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5For the context discussed in the film it was nicely done. Many seem to have trouble with the unsaved not burning for all eternity. This seems odd when you think about it. How could a loving God stand to see even His disobedient child suffer agonizing torment forever. God loves us too much. This movie may challenge your belief but if youre willing to search out the scriptures and seek Gods guidance you will find the truth. Consider "everlasting" as an eternal finality.
