    A difficult read.

David Allen is a brilliant Bible scholar. He obviously put much time and effort into his commentary on Hebrews, and I respect that. Still, he uses too much technical language that is difficult for the average reader to understand (I'm a seminary graduate and a fairly smart guy, but I found this one hard to read). Billy Graham has said, "If you shoot over someone's head, it doesn't mean you have superior ammunition. It means you can't shoot." I don't doubt the quality of Dr. Allen's ammunition, but his aim needs some work.

Detailed, technical exegesis, but lacking conclusions sometimes

He does very detailed exegesis of words and grammar. He doesn't always make conclusions about what the whole means though, after analyzing the parts. That is frustrating. It has been a helpful part of my study in concert with other commentaries, but I wouldn't buy this as a lone commentary on the book of Hebrews.

It can get very technical at some points. This is not an easy read. I think to really understand and assess all that he says you have to have a lot of exegetical experience, and maybe even education in hermeneutics.
