Bonnie5 Stars Out Of 5A wonderful book for those longing for HeavenDecember 9, 2018BonnieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Recently, I was given a copy of the recently updated version of Dwight L. Moody's classic book, Heaven, the Place We Long For. This small book is packed with biblical truths to reassure readers that there is indeed a place called heaven. Using references from the Bible, the author helps us not only see a tiny glimpse of heaven but long for it as well.
As I read Heaven, the Place We Long For, I was impressed with Dr. Moody's evangelistic style of writing. Those who know some of his other works understand his main concern was spreading the gospel and reaching the lost for Christ.
There are many questions regarding the existence of a place we'll spend eternity and many have varied opinions on the matter, but Moody assures us there is a very specific place and it is called heaven. He says, in the book, that the Bible gives clear answers as to who will be allowed into heaven, what it will look like, and who else will be there when we arrive. In regard to the Bible and the afterlife, Dwight L. Moody says, "It seems perfectly reasonable that God should have given us a glimpse of the future, for we are constantly losing some of our friends by death, and the first thought that comes to us is 'Where have they gone?' When loved ones are taken away from us, how that thought comes up before us! How we wonder if we will ever see them again, and where and when it will be! That is when we turn to this blessed Book, for there is no other book in all the world that can give us the slightest comfort; no other book can tell us where the loved ones have gone."
This small book was an easy read. It is filled with beautiful poetry, short stories, and verse by verse explanations on everything related to heaven. A reader of Dr. Moody's book will find very clear and concise answers to questions about heaven. Moody does not offer up his own opinions but points the reader directly to the Bible for clarity regarding our heavenly home.
Heaven, the Place We Long For is a book filled with hope for both the believer and the unbeliever. For the believer, Moody reminds us of what is waiting for us at the point of death. For the unbeliever, he gently and lovingly encourages them to accept what seems so difficult to understand by trusting in the words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I hope you'll take time to read this updated version of Dwight L. Moody's original book. I think you'll find it inspiring and reassuring.
I'd like to thank Aneko Press for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Although I was not encouraged to give a positive review, it is my pleasure to do so.
