I lead a women's growth group and we've been reading Heaven by Randy Alcorn. We are only about halfway through and as a group we have decided to stop and do something else. We have all learned something from the study. But concepts that could have been covered in a paragraph go on for 3 or 4 chapters. I found the book very long-winded and some ideas somewhat "out there".
I had purchased Randy Alcorn's book Heaven several years ago in book and cd form. I purchased it this time to help answer questions a senior couple in our Country Church had brought up. I wanted them to have a Biblical work that was well referenced and Randy's book filled the bill.
This book by Randy Alcorn is awesome. It quotes scripture (that means everything to me) and makes me even more homesick than I already was. It is so comforting to know where my soul will be when I am at last called home and get to see my God - my Father - my Creator face-to-face.
A friend of mine passed this book on to me when my fiance went home to be with the Lord nearly five years ago. It was extremely helpful to me as I went through the grieving process, and it brought great hope and peace to my heart. Since I had to return the book to my friend, I purchased one recently to re-read and to keep on hand as a great reference. This book has revolutionized my thinking about heaven. It has helped me to understand the reality of heaven as a physical place, the continuity of this life with the next, and the grand scope of redemption that Jesus paid for us - both for us, individually, as well as for all of His creation. I highly recommend this book!
I was greatly blessed by this book and my anticipation of our life in Christ after this present world was challenged and stirred to greater expectations. It gives you a 'solid' feel for the 'afterlife'. This will challenge your heart and expectations in the greatness of our salvation in Christ.
