The details of his survival against all odds and 12 years (so far) of his recovery are told by his mother, Lindy. Every page shows the grace and mercy of God through the power of prayer. God worked in the lives of everyone around Ryan - and in and through the countless numbers of people across the United States and even around the world who prayed for Ryan. God is still working as Ryan's recovery continues!
For anyone who may doubt the power of prayer, this book is almost certain to dispel those doubts! As a person who has seen and experienced the amazing power of prayer, Ryan's story has reinforced my conviction. God hears every single prayer.

Lindy and her family were vacationing in Spain when they receive a call that their 24 year old son, Ryan had fallen 40 feet and was barely hanging onto life. Fighting feelings of terror, worry, and dread, the family takes the earliest flight they could to return home to see Ryan. What they see and find out about Ryan's prognosis is shocking and very grim. The doctors tell the family that Ryan's injuries would most likely take his life or result in him living in a vegetative state for the remainder of his life. Despite the prognosis, Lindy and her family choose to listen the voice of God that tells them that Ryan would live and would be used to glorify God. And, that is exactly, what happened. Despite the grim prognosis, Ryan survived his fall. He came out of his coma several weeks later. Despite a serious head injury and brain damage, he made slow progress towards healing with the help of doctors, nurses, caregivers, therapists, and the prayers of millions of people. Because Ryan is the grandson of Pat Boone, his family was invited to appear on the Larry King show. When the family shared their story and about Ryan's prognosis/progress, millions wrote or called in to show their support. However, many more kept Ryan and his family in their prayers. Over the course of 11 years, Ryan has beat the odds and today, he is re-learning to walk. It is amazing how God can use on tragedy to show His glory and to strengthen the faith of those who love Him.

With the injuries he sustained, Ryan's survival and ongoing recovery do not seem possible. It is primarily a record of a mother's personal journey as she draws closer to God through tragedy. I expected more of the family's experiences, but other than Lindy's, there are very few. The narrative is disjointed and choppy, but it does convey the very emotional struggles. There is technical medical information, which is needed for understanding, but be aware there is an instance where body functions are somewhat graphically described, in an "awful moment" toward the end of Chapter 11. I understand her mother's heart, and how she reads how her son feels when he cannot talk. I am impressed by the entire family and the strong support they give. I may have felt more connected to Lindy if I knew about the accident at the time, or was a fan of her family, or if I could get past the flawed doctrine, but her walk through the valley needed to be written. It is very moving.

It is told by his mother and describes her childhood as the daughter of singer Pat Boone, relationship with her son, and the tragedy. I thought the book was a decent read about prayer and trusting God no matter what happens.

Family, church, and faith were the foundation of her life. Unfortunately her first marriage to Doug Corbin, a guy she met at college and married two years later when she was just 20, ended in divorce, leaving her with two young children, Ryan and Jessi. But God through the lyrics of a song helped her feel cleansed and hopeful. Working in a law office she met Mike Mitchelis whom she married although he wasn't a Christian. Two years later she gave birth to Tyler. Years later as Ryan prepared to graduate from college, he attended a weekend retreat where he felt God's presence and call. He told Lindy he thought something was going to happen to him. He poured over the Bible and wrote an amazing screen play called 3:16. Everyone he met sensed he had a special call on his life and God was going to use him. He became engaged and found a great job. Mike urged him to be less vocal about his faith, fearing his enthusiasm for Christ would cause him to lose friends. But at the same time he was intrigued by Ryan's attitude. And then disaster occurred. Ryan fell almost 40 feet through a skylight to concrete below, not moving, unconscious, bloody, gasping for air. Paramedics arrived within minutes, giving Ryan oxygen, starting an IV, putting him on an EKG monitor and rushing him to the ER although they were sure he would die. He was bleeding internally, in shock, had multiple fractures, contusions, brain swelling, jaw broken, swelling in the spinal area, lungs punctured and filled with blood, ribs fractured, spleen destroyed, liver bleeding, pelvic bones fractured, and severe chemical imbalance in his blood. But God had other plans. Lindy went on the Larry King live show 4 times calling for Christians to pray. Help can from so many places. God let her know that Ryan would live and many lives would come to know Christ because of what God can do even today. Ryan lived and recovered enough that he demonstrated that God is alive and actively involved in saving lives for eternity through belief in Him!!! If you're unsure of this or want confirmation that God exists in the affairs of men, read this book!!! Ryan should have died. He didn't. He should be a vegetable, but he isn't! Heaven hears us!!! God is only a prayer away!!! Read this MUST READ BOOK!!!
