Marilee loves to read5 Stars Out Of 5Stunning!February 27, 2023Marilee loves to readQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Hearts of Steel, #3.I am a longtime fan of Elizabeth Camden and this book is a perfect example of why.
Liam's story is an epic conclusion to an unforgettable series! It weaves fascinating historical details of turn-of-the-century New York City with an intriguing story of corruption and treachery, of bravery and love.
This is a David vs. Goliath story full of complex characters, suspenseful moments, and an oh-so-sighworthy romance between Maggie, the owner of an ice cream company and Liam, who grew up in the working class but is now one of the wealthiest men in the city. Together they fight for justice and I love how much they learn and grow from each other. Such great character arcs!
I could not get enough of this story and the ending was everything it should be. Highly recommend to any fan of historical romance!
This is the third book in the Blackstone Legacy series and while it can be read as a standalone, Liam's story actually begins in the first book and reading the series in order will give you a better appreciation and understanding of his character and the Blackstone family dynamics.
I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required. -

eLyndaAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Complex and CompellingFebruary 23, 2023eLyndaAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Hearts of Steel, #3.Elizabeth Camden has a wonderful ability to create characters and situations unlike any others I have read. This particular book is no exception, and I really enjoyed the chance to read Liams love story.
Of course, it is also Maggies story, and it is complex all the way around. I confess that my head was spinning at times with the ins and outs of small businesses, large steel corporations, and the intricacies of the city of New York in the 1890s. But Camden does a good job in explaining things without it seeming overwhelming or jarring me out of the narrative. I felt like I was learning how industry worked right alongside Liam and Maggie as they tried to unravel the difficulties surrounding them.
One of the overarching themes of this novel is the influence of family, for good and for bad. Both of the main characters had things in their past that they could not control. They were victims of the choices of others. It motivated them to be different, and challenged them to trust others. While not an easy read, it is an important one as it caused me to consider how my desire to not repeat the past sometimes ironically makes me more liable to do so.
I really enjoyed this final installment of the Blackstone family saga and the chance to revisit some other characters. Because I had read the previous two books, I felt this was a richer conclusion to the series, though I would have been able to understand this story on its own if I were new to the story world. I highly recommend it to fans of historical fiction, especially those with a love of New York, immigrant, or industrial history, both from a wealthy and a more common perspective.
I received a review copy of this book from the author and publisher but was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are both honest and my own. -
Micky5 Stars Out Of 5Ice CreamFebruary 8, 2023MickyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Hearts of Steel, #3.The was a great end to The Blackstone Legacy. Maddie and Liam are strong and determined to do what is right sometimes putting themselves in harms way. It is sad that there are people like Charles Morse to make trouble for people just because they can. I liked Liam's comment, "What was the point in having money and power if he didn't use it on behalf of common decency?" I am looking forward to Elizabeth Camden's next book. I recomment this book to everyone.

shereadswherevershegoesAtlanta, GAAge: Under 18Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Camden has another winner!February 6, 2023shereadswherevershegoesAtlanta, GAAge: Under 18Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Hearts of Steel, #3.The Gilded Age (especially in NYC) has long fascinated me, so I've particularly enjoyed this series and its setting accordingly. Books 1 and 2 were excellent, and this finale is no exception! I learned so much about the time period and goings-on in the city's Financial District (and had to work at not geeking out too hard over that neighborhood, as it's home to Trinity Church Wall Street, of _National Treasure_ fame--and just up from the NYSE, interestingly).
Liam is an endearing hero, and Maggie a spitfire of a heroine. They are well matched, and watching their story unfold was a joy. If only the series could continue; I'm not ready to see the end of the Blackstone family stories!
Being book 3, it's helpful to have read the other two first. Events of those books are referenced here, and several characters make crucial appearances (which is always fun).
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
