With her personable, humorous style, Jill shares from her experience as a mother of five and from conversations with many other moms to offer practical ideas and motivation to create a home that is a

  • safe place for a functional family to blossom

  • museum filled with a family's history, stories, and heritage
  • school with lessons of virtue, integrity, and ethics

This anchor book for Hearts at Home will extend beyond this valuable ministry to encourage all women to build the heart of their home on biblical principles and to raise a family that is strong, loving, and firmly standing on a foundation of faith.

She and her husband, Mark, have five children and one granddaughter.

ChristianBookPreviews.com

My Heart’s at Home by Jill Savage addresses the need of families to have a mother who is a mom by intention, that is, a mom on purpose, a mom by choice. The trivialization of the career of mothering by the feminist movement has caused many women to feel that they are not valuable unless they are earning a second income. The author at one point felt she would be wasting her education to stay at home, but then she began to see motherhood as a valid and important profession.

Editorial Reviews

"As a specialist in the field of adoption, I am well aware that an adopted child cannot learn to trust and therefore thrive without 'a safe place.' Jill gives so many ways to make home a safe place for every family and I would highly recommend My Heart's at Home."
Sherrie Eldridge, author of Twenty Things Adopted Kids Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew and Forever Fingerprints—An Amazing Discovery for Adopted Children

I like the subtitle for this book: Becoming the Intentional Mom Your Family Needs. As the mother of five (including one adopted at age nine from Russia), plus founder of Hearts at Home, Jill knows what its like to be stretched thin, but she encourages moms to be intentional in parenting their children in the many realms of family life. Organized around the metaphor of the many functions of a home (like pep rally, museum, hospitality center, cultural center), the book helps moms see that family life is more than meals and laundry. Her personal stories remind us that no home is perfect, but we have the heavens resources to do the best job we can. I especially liked how she mentioned keeping a knickknack collection that tells a familys God stories. Ive done that for years and was glad to know others had, too. Give yourself a boost, get excited about better ways to parent, and share a copy with a friend. Or get several friends together to work through the discussion questions at the end.
