Carman Boley5 Stars Out Of 5August 9, 2010Carman BoleyHeartless is a beautiful allegory about our choices and how they affect us, and those around us. It is also a touching story about Jesus redeeming love for each of us. This is definitely a book unto itself. Ive never read anything quite like it in the fantasy genre or any other for that matter. Very original, and unique! Annes writing style is great, with lots of richness to it that will draw you into the story. I loved this book and I would recommend it to all ages!
Kelli B.5 Stars Out Of 5July 19, 2010Kelli B.I just finished and thoroughly enjoyed Heartless! The book had that perfect balance of truly classic fantasy, with a wonderful sense of humor (and drama, of course)!I just LOVED all of the characters! Anne did a great job developing them early on, so it was really easy to get wrapped up in the story as it got going. Even the more peripheral characters are unique and imaginative. I thought that that Anne captured the heart of Jesus beautifully in her portrayal of Prince Aethelbald. It felt very reminiscent of the way C.S. Lewis wrote Aslan. The villain of the story was multi-layered in a way that I wasnt expecting. He could truly be all flame and rage, but he could also be very subtle in the way his interacted with other characters. All in all a very enjoyable and compelling read. I cant wait to see what happens next!
Michelle Smith5 Stars Out Of 5July 18, 2010Michelle SmithI just finished reading the book and have to say, AMAZING! I could hardly put it down, which is strange for me. I love it, she introduces so many interesting creatures, and makes it all seem so unimaginable. She tells you details that leave you wandering what it truly means, and what will happen. I love the turn of the story that is a twist on the classic fairytale. Its so unlike anything I have ever read but in a totally awesome way. The ending is so intense I literally was on the edge of my seat! The only draw back I have against this tale is the lack of God, or a parallel of God. It has a clear division between good and evil, light and dark, and Prince Aethelbald has some Christ-like similarities, but its not clear what he is or what fuels him. But other than that the story is riveting and I can't wait for the next one!
