Grace Mallory is tired of running, of hiding. But when an old friend sends an after-hours telegraph transmission warning Grace that the man who has hunted her for nearly a year has discovered her location, she fears she has no choice. She can't let the villain she believes responsible for her father's death release his wrath in Harper's Station, the town that has sheltered her and blessed her with the dearest friends she's ever known.
Amos Bledsoe prefers bicycles to horses and private conversations over the telegraph wire to social gatherings with young ladies who see him as nothing more than an oddity. His telegraph companion, the mysterious Miss G, listens eagerly to his ramblings every night and delights him with tales all her own. For months, their friendship--dare he believe, courtship?--has fed his hope that he has finally found the woman God intended for him. Yet when he takes the next step to meet her in person, he discovers her life is in peril, and Amos must decide if he can shed the cocoon of his quiet nature to become the hero Grace requires.
KaraAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Heart on the LIneAugust 13, 2017KaraAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Heart on the Line, by Karen Witemeyer, is the second installment of the Ladies of Harpers Station series. It follows No Other Will Do. Harpers Station is located in the old west, with mainly female residents.
Grace Mallory relocates to Harpers Station after witnessing her fathers murder. She brings with her, however, evidence of a crime that her father was attempting to turn over to a Pinkerton agent. When those implicated located her, sending a threatening message, Amos Bledsoe rushes to the rescue. He and Grace, both telegraph operators, have been developing a relationship over the wires. He hopes to save her from danger and become her hero, but upon arrival Amos discovers that Grace and the other residents of Harpers Station are not as helpless as he originally thought.
Even though I had not read the first book in this series, I enjoyed this book. Though some events from the first book are referenced, one does not need it to understand this one. I liked the independent nature of the women in this book. I especially appreciated Amoss sense of humor and the nicknames he gave people, such as Revolver Granny.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading western or suspense novels.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great historical dramatic taleAugust 10, 2017MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Karen Witemeyer has captivated me again. Her newest book centers around two telegraph operators whose meeting in person leads to much more than either expected. Grace had to flee after her father's death and found sanctuary in the women's colony of Harper's Station, Texas (which happens to be near where my dad grew up--making the setting even more interesting to me). Amos had fallen for this female operator through their Morse code conversations. When he learns her life is in danger, he sets off to help rescue the woman of his dreams. Yet the depth and the richness of this story cannot be explained in a few sentences. It is compelling, entertaining, endearing, and exciting. The book contains plenty of drama and often tugs at the emotions. One particularly powerful emotional experience came for me when a man-hating woman who had been abused as a child rescued an injured man who had been left to die. As her heart reached out to a fellow victim, my heart and feelings got totally wrapped up in the scene. The author crafts her characters carefully and her stories with skill. I love her historical tales filled with people with whom readers can easily identify.

Onto Her Bookshelf4 Stars Out Of 5Such a sweet read!August 6, 2017Onto Her BookshelfQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Karen Witemeyer has been a long-time favorite of mine. Her books always incorporate unique characters, humor, and a sweet romance. Heart on the Line is no exception to that formula. I could hardly pass it up, what with the heroine and I sharing a name.
I loved, in particular, Amos Bledsoe. He was such an interesting character, from his love for bicycles, to his way of responding to different situations. I can see why Grace fell for him. :) I also enjoyed how they met, on the line, as it were. The different elements of working for a telegraph office were fascinating, as I really knew nothing about that. I also appreciated how this wasnt an easy journey for Grace and Amos. Just when you think theyre about to win, they get a set back, which is true to life, isnt it?
This is a sweet read with some danger in the mix. If youve been reading the Ladies of Harper Station series, then youll enjoy this latest installment.
Melissa4 Stars Out Of 5Loved Visiting Harper Station AgainJuly 25, 2017MelissaQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I havent read a book by Karen that I didnt thoroughly enjoy, and this book is no exception.
I was delighted to visit Harper Station again and see what these strong women were up to.
Grace doesnt appear overly strong as first but as we get to know her she is full of strength and she knows it comes from the Lord. I love how she used scripture to come against her enemy, just like our Savior.
Amos is not your typical hero and he knows it, but he becomes the hero we all long for and he even surprised me with his passion, which I loved.
There is even another romance in the story that we get to enjoy which adds to all that is happening and doesnt take away at all from the main romance.
Overall, another great one by Karen that I recommend.
A copy of this book was given to me by the publisher. All opinions are my own.
