These days we are living longer than ever, yet we're more run down, anxious, overweight, exhausted, stressed out, depressed, and all-around more unwell than ever before. The quantity of the days we live is up, but the quality of those days is down. Way down.
What if there were a simple, everyday way to change this? What if a healthy life were easily within your grasp--body, mind, and spirit? The good news is that it is!
Going beyond over-hyped diets and complicated exercise routines, spiritual wellness expert and certified nutritional counselor Laura Harris Smith distills the essence of a healthy life into one simple, practical idea: change your habits, change your life. By showing that a truly healthy life is more than physical--it's mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual--Smith gives you easy, everyday ways not only to live well, but to live better, in every area of life.
Accessible, practical, and grounded in real life, The Healthy Living Handbook is not a major lifestyle overhaul; it's just full of simple course corrections that will bring you the peace, rest, energy, connection, and clarity you've longed for. When you live from a place of true health, you will love more deeply, engage more fully, and participate with others more wholeheartedly.
Having always had one foot in ministry and one in media, Laura speaks and ministers internationally and is known for her convicting and educational message of body, mind and spirit health. Laura's last two books, The 30-Day Faith Detox: Renew Your Mind, Cleanse Your Body and Heal Your Spirit and Seeing the Voice of God: What God Is Telling You through Dreams and Visions, rose to the top of Amazon's bestseller lists and held the #1 spot in several Christian categories.
Elizabeth5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent book on total health - body, mind, spirit!!December 6, 2017ElizabethQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Healthy Living Handbook is unlike any book I've read on the topic of health and wellness. Laura Harris Smith focuses on the whole person - body, mind and spirit - and offers the "top ten" healthy living habits for each category. She writes in a style that makes you feel like you are sitting down for an afternoon chat as she shares wisdom and stories and practical advice from a wealth of knowledge and years of personal experience. Laura gives a lot of food for thought, and while it is a quick read, it should not be skimmed! Chew on it! Take the time to read and ponder, and then go apply it to your life! I enjoyed Laura's poetry throughout the book and the prayers that she included at the end of each chapter. This is definitely a book I will read over and over again. I highly recommend it and encourage you to read it as well! I received an Advance Reading Copy of this book from the publisher, Chosen, a division of Baker Publishing Group."
GazpachoHarrison, MIAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5I loved this book. It's a guidebook that helps us understand how to seek health for the complete person.December 5, 2017GazpachoHarrison, MIAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The subtitle for this book is "Simple, Everyday Habits for Your Body, Mind and Spirit." There is a good reason for this subtitle. The author believes that we are triune beings with a mind, a physical body and a spirit. So this book takes a look at all three areas in order to strive for complete health. In light of that, the book is divided into three sections. Each section includes a short chapter on each of the top 10 healthy living habits for that section. Altogether, 30 healthy living habits are discussed and explained.
What this author does best is to simplify a process that could become overwhelming if we let it, into do-able steps with a simple daily plan. Everything you need to change your ordinary life into an extraordinary healthy life is in this book. I think of the book as a handbook, as it is called by the author, because this is a great resource to keep on hand for reference. The author has done much research into all the topics discussed in the book and includes many of these resources in footnotes in each chapter.
What I like most about the book is that the author loves lists. Lists make it easy to find the topics and the resources, so that when you are ready to adopt another healthy habit, you can do some research of your own if you desire before adding the new habit to your lifestyle. This book has a plan for a complete makeover of your whole self, but it is up to you to carry out the plan. The pace is set by you, going at whatever speed you are comfortable with. That makes this book very do-able for most of us.
My overall impression after reading this book is dynamite. The book is compact, pithy, and immensely practical. It's a small book with only a little over 200 pages. But each page is well worth the time taken to read it. She explains her reasons for what she includes in her lists but is not long-winded in those discussions. As a testimony to how thought provoking her book is, if you were to see my copy, you would find underlining and stars and marks to highlight what I wanted to find later. By the end of the book I realized I had a great overview of what it means to live a complete whole healthy lifestyle that encompasses mind, body and soul.

Living BoldlyAge: Under 18Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5A Great Resource for Living WellDecember 5, 2017Living BoldlyAge: Under 18Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have found a fantastic resource and guidebook for living a healthier, happier and more balanced life. The Healthy Living Handbook by Laura Harris Smith is that resource! This book is practical, easy to read, packed with information, and doable. It is a very useful and simple to follow. Anyone can easily apply the recommendations from Laura and see great improvement in their health and well-being.
With thirty short chapters, The Healthy Living Handbook addresses the whole person. By changing one's habits, these simple ideas are divided over three sections: spirit, mind, and body. Ten very important, yet doable new habits for each area are explained.
As I read through The Healthy Living Handbook, I immediately found changes that I can make to improve my life. These changes are easily applied, and I can achieve greater health and wellness because I am caring for my spirit, mind and body. I love that Laura provides guidance for the whole person, not just one area. I can read a chapter per day or spend more time on a chapter. But either way, I will be greatly improving my health inside and out.
I very highly recommend The Healthy Living Handbook: Simple, Everyday Habits for Your Body, Mind and Spirit. I am going to be reading through this book again and again to receive all of the important information contained in this book. I know I want to continue to live better and enjoy life fully.
