Cancer, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis are just a few of the chronic illnesses that plague many Americans, and Christians are not exempt. Living with a serious illness is not easy. The challenges extend far beyond the physical realm, and maintaining a strong Christian testimony is difficult. Growing in godliness and pleasing God do not come naturally.
In the midst of such complex challenges, even the most mature Christians need help. They need more than just shared life stories or practical tips for facing their disease. They need more than poignant illustrations to inspire them or amusing anecdotes to make them laugh. While each of these aspects is helpful, what sufferers need most is the encouraging truth of the Bible. Only the supernatural, unchanging Word of God can give genuine comfort and effective help.
Healing for the Heart is a devotional designed for Christians who are serious about seeking God's help in their time of illness. The entries are focused on Bible truths and are designed to provide encouragement, instruction, and gentle challenge. Strengthen your heart on a daily basis with this biblically-based and compassionately-shared truth.
EmilyEscondido, CA5 Stars Out Of 5This is a beautiful, encouraging, and needed bookFebruary 5, 2014EmilyEscondido, CAQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is, in short, amazing! Peggy knows that chronic illness is not "neat" or "convenient" and so she has written over a year's worth of devotions, so you can start at any time and finish whenever, and restart as you please. Each day is numbered and in each devotion she focuses on a specific truth from God's Word that is an encouragement to someone in trying health circumstances. Peggy has been quite sick herself, so she understands to different layers of difficulty that one goes through. She addresses many of these different areas of difficulty with caring, encouraging, and understanding words. She ends each devotional with a short prayer.
I would heartily recommend this dear book to other suffering a chronic illness, especially those that have a chronic illness that is more difficult.
I have found this book helpful in my own current journey of worsening health.
Thank you, Peggy, for obeying God's direction and writing this book to bring encouragement to those who really need it.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have been involved in Christian education for 13 years. I have taught in schools in Mexico, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. Currently I am working for a counseling service.
What was your motivation behind this project? Through a four-year battle with Lyme disease, I learned the spiritual challenges that can accompany a physical illness. I realized that hurting people desperately need help, and God prompted me to share the encouraging truths He had given to help me.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? There is spiritual help available for any situation of life. The Bible has the hope and encouragement that sufferers need. That help comes primarily as people see how amazing God is and that He is not limited like man is. The Bible reveals those concepts repeatedly.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? While my illness was much better by the time I wrote the book, I was still in a difficult situation due to an extended unemployment. As I worked on writing the entries, I was encouraged over and over again by the unchanging truth of God's Word as it ministered to me again in my new area of struggle.
