When Gideon Westcott left his privileged life in England to make a name for himself in America's wool industry, he never expected to become a father overnight. And five-year-old Isabella hasn't uttered a word since she lost her mother. The unconventionality of the new governess concerns Gideon--and intrigues him at the same time. But he can't afford distractions. He has a ranch to run, a shearing to oversee, and a suspicious fence-cutting to investigate.
When Isabella's uncle comes to claim the child--and her inheritance--Gideon and Adelaide must work together to protect Isabella from the man's evil schemes. And soon neither can deny their growing attraction. But after so many heartbreaks, will Adelaide be willing to get her head out of the clouds and put her heart on the line?
taralynee5 Stars Out Of 5what a fun book, full of the unexpected!April 10, 2018taralyneeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Karen Witemeyer was a new-to-me writer. She had been on my TBR list for a while, and I chose this particular book of hers to for my first because of a recommendation from a friend. We both love Anne of Green Gables, and this heroine reminded her of Anne.. thus prompting her to recommend it to me!
I really enjoyed the unexpectedness that I found in Head in the Clouds. It included threads of both British and Texan culture, romance, suspense, and fancifulness, all woven into a creative story that kept me guessing. While there were some dark elements and difficult times in this story, overall it was pretty light, and the headstrong heroine, Adelaide, did in fact remind me of Anne too.
The storyline is a bit complex to summarize without saying too much... but not complex in a confusing way. There's just so much good story...
Nicole Poole did a great job on this audio book, and I really enjoyed her -- except for her voice for Bella.. but honestly, I think it's got to be difficult trying to mimic a child's voice for a recording.
I would like to compare this book with jalapeno cornbread. Comfort food with some spice. :)

Loraine5 Stars Out Of 5I enjoyed this story.July 13, 2016LoraineQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I wasnt sure if I would like Adelaide because of her initial impulsiveness which gets her into trouble, but I quickly learned that her head in the clouds only spoke of a hope for a brighter future. I was hooked and determined to follow her story to see her get a happy ending.
