MCGSBurlington, VTAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent HCS translation and Study BibleAugust 31, 2018MCGSBurlington, VTAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I have purchased the Holman Study bible in the NRSV and the KJV and given away an NRSV copy as well. These are the best study bibles I have ever seen in all my decades of both reading and buying bibles. I love them, and have had quite a few and given away lots. I have had my eye on the HCSB Study Bible in this translation for a long time, and been waiting for a deal. I just bought it in hardcover for a fabulous price, and got the large print edition because at my age I want it more than need it. Yes, it is a large and heavy Bible, but the helps and commentaries, and all the information in it are the best because I don't need a pile of books beside me when I am reading, unless I really want to have other helps. Sometimes I do, but sometimes not. The maps are fantastic, and I love the color maps and photographs. I also own the Holman Illustrated Study Bible, which unfortunately is out of print now. I love that one although it has far less helps - it does have loads of maps and photos, and graphs and charts. AND, the best part of that older bible is that it has features from the Inter-testamentary Period as they call it. Maps of the Roman Empire, and a history of what went on in those "between" years. I was thinking the newer Bible, this one I am reviewing, would also have that and it does not!! THIS is the only negative I see in it. It is weird that a Bible doesn't have something that tells you about the Roman Empire and that period of time between. The Bible all occurred within huge empires that ebbed and flowed, and the whole New Testament took place with the background of the Roman Empire, and that referencing historical story really puts more reality and importance to the whole Christian story because it shows how small and how remote Israel was to the Empire, which gives us a real appreciation for the impact on the history of the world that the spread of Christianity has had. I hope more study bibles will have that information in them in the future. I hate to have to say that it should have been in the HSCB Study Bible.

Bud4 Stars Out Of 5HCSB Study Bible Large Print HardcoverAugust 8, 2018BudQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Bought this bible for the study information, contains a ton of insightful information. Both the corners of the hard cover came creased, so the slight markdown for quality, for $10 on clearance who can complain. The print is easy on the eyes, but the size is prohibitive and I wouldn't want to lug this around unless I wanted my arm pulled out of joint. The translation itself reads beautifully and has been faithfully translated; I have the new CSB as my primary bible and don't see an appreciable result in the translation 'upgrade' so I'm glad this version was priced for clearance, worth it for the study material by itself but the word of God still renders it priceless.
