Publisher's Description

This updated reference edition of the HCSB is optimized for easy reading on digital devices. It includes more than 35,000 links to textual notes, alternate readings, explanatory notes, cross references, and Old Testament citations in the New Testament. The table of contents is organized by headings within each chapter and the corresponding verse numbers, and the ebook file has been specifically formatted to be fast and easy to use.

The HCSB was developed by 100 scholars and English stylists from 17 denominations, who prayerfully translated what is one of the most significant Bible translations available today. The HCSB reflects linguistic advances in vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and formatting while it retains meaningful theological terms. In the HCSB you'll find God's personal name (Yahweh), the use of "Messiah" in the New Testament, and the use of "slave" in the New Testament, just to name a few examples. Also, you'll notice the contemporary speech patterns in the HCSB mean that words like "behold" and "shall" are not used. Instead, words or phrases that are common today can be found in their place.

The HCSB employs a first-of-its kind translation philosophy known as Optimal Equivalence, which seeks to achieve an optimal balance of literary precision and emotive clarity through a comprehensive analysis of the text at every level. This process assures maximum transfer of both words and thoughts contained in the original.

I bought the burgundy genuine leather one without index tabs. I do not enjoy using Bibles with the tabs. The center column references are a must for me, and I love all the footnotes. I do wish the pages were not so thin. Must be very careful not to tear the pages. Wish they had included even a small bit of info at the beginning of each book, and maybe left out the family pages at the front....those are a waste of space and waste of good paper. Most people do not use them. Love the concordance. Love the excellent translation. Cover is soft and the color is gorgeous. Lovely quality on the entire Bible. Printing is light but I do not mind that. I think they maybe had to make it light cause of the paper being so thin. I was not buying this for the thinness...I collect Bibles. I have around 150 at present. Excellent Bible, fantastic price. Words of Christ in red, which is an added feature to make this a great Bible. Thank You.

I ordered this, only to receive a 2009 version, which has san serif fonts throughout (much harder to read), and the references at the BOTTOM of the page, rather than the top.

First of all, the quality of this Bible's binding is great! Genuine Leather is beautiful and sturdier than bonded leather. The color is gorgeous. Now for the real stuff: I have researched several reviews and there doesn't seem to be as much controversy on this version as the NIV. Scholars used the Nestle-Aland's Novum Testamentum Graece and the Greek New Testament for the NT and mainly Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia for the OT. (Of course, many more resources were also used.) The HCSB makes note in footnotes of text not original in some of the Hebraic/Aramaic text and explain the importance for interpretation. You will find God's names: Yahweh, Hosanna, Messiah, Abba and others not found in some modern translations. I believe there was much more thought put into this version/interpretation in order to keep the Message alive. Overall, I like the read. I have ADD and this version "flows" for me without being distracted by sentence formation.

The e-book is terrible. Very slow response. None of the reference links work. I feel like I wasted my money.
