The HCSB was developed by 100 scholars and English stylists from 17 denominations, who prayerfully translated what is one of the most significant Bible translations available today. The HCSB reflects linguistic advances in vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and formatting while it retains meaningful theological terms. In the HCSB you'll find God's personal name (Yahweh), the use of "Messiah" in the New Testament, and the use of "slave" in the New Testament, just to name a few examples. Also, you'll notice the contemporary speech patterns in the HCSB mean that words like "behold" and "shall" are not used. Instead, words or phrases that are common today can be found in their place.
The HCSB employs a first-of-its kind translation philosophy known as Optimal Equivalence, which seeks to achieve an optimal balance of literary precision and emotive clarity through a comprehensive analysis of the text at every level. This process assures maximum transfer of both words and thoughts contained in the original.
MONKTexasAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Better read than given credit.February 16, 2015MONKTexasAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5First of all, the quality of this Bible's binding is great! Genuine Leather is beautiful and sturdier than bonded leather. The color is gorgeous. Now for the real stuff: I have researched several reviews and there doesn't seem to be as much controversy on this version as the NIV. Scholars used the Nestle-Aland's Novum Testamentum Graece and the Greek New Testament for the NT and mainly Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia for the OT. (Of course, many more resources were also used.) The HCSB makes note in footnotes of text not original in some of the Hebraic/Aramaic text and explain the importance for interpretation. You will find God's names: Yahweh, Hosanna, Messiah, Abba and others not found in some modern translations. I believe there was much more thought put into this version/interpretation in order to keep the Message alive. Overall, I like the read. I have ADD and this version "flows" for me without being distracted by sentence formation.

Poor font sizing of references makes reading a challenge. Page and line breaks are awkward rather than intuitive. Adding notes? Forget it.
I love this translation for its clarity and incisiveness, so I'm very disappointed with the app.
