Booklover105 Stars Out Of 5Now I can be creative in my Bible without worrying about perfectionAugust 13, 2016Booklover10Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Im slow to the adult coloring world. It wasnt that I thought it wasnt fun. I just have a hard time sitting still and allowing myself the time it takes to color. Being a musician, though, I was excited to see art being so widely accepted by churches as a form of worship. I just couldnt bring myself to do it.
It wasnt because I was afraid of writing in my Bible. It was because I couldnt create those beautifimg_0573ul pages that Id still enjoy 5 years later. I was overwhelmed and frustrated that I couldnt be as creative and well, perfect. So I admired the pages of others from afar, but longing to join in.
When I got this Bible, I was actually drawn to it because it was a notetaking Bible. Being someone who loves words and loves to write, it was right up my alley. It has the perfect amount of space, lined and unlined, to take notes from sermons, Bible studies, etc. The cover is nice and is unlike anything Ive seen. Its a good mix between the soft and hard covers.
But there was more. Inside each page there is art. it is in light gray ink so that I can draw over it and color it in my colors. Finally, it can be exactly what I want and I dont have to worry about it not being perfect! I was so excited! I decided to start coloring in 1 Peter because I was going to be teaching it in the fall. I love that now I am able toimg_0571 join in worshipping God through the beautiful art and colors and creativity He made and gave to us. I can be an active participant instead of observing.
I have a friend who gave this Bible to her mother-in-law. Shes going through a difficult time right now and is spending a lot of time in the hospital waiting rooms. This is a wonderful gift idea that will encourage and uplift those who open it, read it, and color it.
I used the Staedtler pens on it, and it didnt even bleed through. I will probably experiment with coloring pencils soon, but I didnt know if would smudge over time or not.
You pro-Bible coloring artists, let me know what tools you have found to work well in your artwork. Id love to expand my collection now that Im hooked.
I received this Bible free from Lifeway and B&H Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
Just Commonly4 Stars Out Of 5Great quality Bible for note-taking and studying.July 4, 2016Just CommonlyQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Do you take notes when you study your Bible? Do you have one Bible that is designated as your note-taking Bible - as one that you can write on it, highlight it and underline it? Well, if you do, I think you'll greatly appreciate The HCSB Note-taking Bible from Holman Bible Publishing and B&H Publishing. Now, I'm not an expert on translations, so most of this review is about what I like in terms of the physicality of this Bible. However, I will say the HCSB version is a simple and easy to understand contemporary English version. One feature of the HCSB version I do like is when it indents and create an easy to read "section" or "paragraph" of an important verse(s).
First, the outside. The HCSB Note-taking Bible has a bonded leather exterior hardcover, making it sturdy and one to last for a very long time. At 8.5" x 6.5" x 1.5" thick, it's easy to carry around, but personally, I prefer it at home due to the weight (2.5 lbs) and I typically take more notes at home. What I also appreciate tremendously is the "open spine" feature. It is designed to lay flat and open no matter the page you are on, and without causing the spine to degrade in time like some glued spine books are (including Bibles). It also comes with a brown ribbon book mark to help you hold your last reading page.
The interior of this Bible is just as top quality. The pages are ivory color with black print, and very small dotted line on the edge, serving as note lines. The lines are not strong in contrast due to the "dotted" nature, though I must say the space in between each line is on the small side. If you have large handwriting, you'll most likely go over the lines. The fonts are standard font sizes you find in most Bibles. Headings in a san serif font, and verses in serif. Jesus' words are not in red. Another aspect I do like about this Bible is the page numbers. It is located on the bottom right corner versus the typical on top next to or on top center of the page where the Bible page location are. I like the separation making it clear. And with that, I have to note the Bible verse/page number is on the small size.
In all, I like The HCSB Note-taking Bible. It is easy to understand, read and take notes with. The great quality physicality of this Bible makes it one great gift or one to use for a long time.

Seasons of GraceAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Happy With MineJune 29, 2016Seasons of GraceAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I am really excited about this Bible, especially since I am a note-taker. Just about all my Bibles have notes written in the margins. This Bible allows plenty of room on the side columns to write your thoughts, references, etc. I even saw a couple of pictures where people drew illustrations in the side bars. Awesome idea! And personally, I think I will like this version of the Bible.
This Bible would be great to take to church, or just do Bible studies out of. It also contains some great reference tools in the back such as maps, a concordance, a Bible reading plan and a dictionary of sorts. Two small negatives would be the fact that the font is a little on the small side, but I can handle that. And the words of Jesus are also not in red, which I am kind of used to, but that may even make me pay a bit more attention to who said what since it is not spelled out for me.
Overall, I like this Bible. I am going to enjoy using it as I am in need of a Bible at the moment. I was blessed with a copy of this Bible by B&H Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not required to give a positive review.
countrybear52Auburn, INAge: 55-65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Easy to read version but font TOO smallJune 26, 2016countrybear52Auburn, INAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Once again, I was given the opportunity to receive and review a new Bible. This one is the Holman Christian Standard Notetaking Bible. I was really excited to receive a notetaking Bible as I thought it would be a great addition for my study of the Bible.
Blurb about this Bible:
The Note-Taking Bible contains the full text of the Holman Christian Standard Bible in a single-column setting. Abundant space is provided on each page to make observations, record insights, raise questions, and suggest to yourself additional exploration of the text. The Bible includes a 40-page concordance, eight four-color maps, a one-year Bible reading plan, presentation page, and an introduction to the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
Normally, I am a fan of the New King James and New International Version of the Bible. I found the Holman Christian Standard Bible to be an easy version to read and understand, but it didn't win me away from the NKJV or the NIV Bible versions.
One thing I loved about this Bible is the wide open margins in which you can write your study notes. In my regular Bibles, I can never find enough room to make notes. I guarantee you there is ample room in this Bible.
If I had to say anything negative about this Bible, it is the size of the font. I am older and the font was way too small for my eyes. I also wish that this would have been a red letter edition, but it wasn't. While it is a negative for me, I doubt that it would be a negative for everyone.
I would like to thank B & H/Lifeway for my copy of the Holman Christian Standard Notetaking Bible. I received my copy for free in order to read it and give my honest review.
If you are looking for an easy to read version of the Bible with the room to take ample notes, this Bible is for you.
I do not choose to offer a rating on this Bible as while there are things I don't particularly like, that is simply my opinion based on my preferences and I am sure many people will absolutely love this Bible.
