Intrigue upon intrigue. Seriously riveting stuff. Because Zach and Kristi can't figure out who is targeting them. So we've got murderous attempts with no clear reason why. Suspense and mystery combine to make this a truly compelling read. Twists and turns galore. And the romance? Well...um...Zach? Phew! Focused. Honorable. Protector. And he fantasizes about this in-name-only marriage becoming a real one. Cue the toe-curling kisses. Oh my! Kristi is a little slower on the uptake but she gets there...when it's almost too late! A page-turner of a read with a warm fuzzy Christmas ending!

Liz Johnson is releasing her 5th installment in the Men of Valor series which takes us from Montana to San Diego where he is stationed. Zach is a great guy, but as you can guess he thrives on adrenaline. He has come home to check on his cousin's family. Aaron was killed and he knew his wife and child were a responsibility that he couldn't ignore. He finds Kristi still struggling with her grief and a seriously sick little boy. In his attempt to help he offers a marriage proposal in name only, but in his heart hopes it evolves into a real marriage. Their arrival in San Diego was met with Zach being deployed yet again.

Kristi and Cody settle into a routine and life with Zach being gone, but when he returns home suddenly it appears someone is targeting Kristi. Zach vows to protect his family and his heart if possible.

This story is mystery interlaced with lots of suspense, but it also includes love, faith and trust. It has a fast paced plot that grabbed me from the beginning and the many twists and turns kept me turning the pages. The engaging characters are complex, but very lovable. Kristi was a loving mother and an intelligent woman. Zach is just wonderful. His character has a softer side with a tough exterior. The story broaches a tough topic of organ transplant, but resolves it realistically.

This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good suspense.

**I received this book via the author. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Suspenseful page turner that keeps you guessing till the end. Throw into the mix a different sort of marriage of convenience and a very ill child and you have a book you don't want to put down. Liz Johnson has a way with words that grabs you and leaves you wanting more. Her characters are always well developed. I love books of second chances and heroes that put God and family before themselves. I highly recommend this read.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author. The review and honest opinions are my own.

Liz Johnson's fifth book in her 'Men of Valor' series starts off great and keeps on going, practically without pause, the entire book. This is suspense at its finest. Navy SEAL Zach McCloud returns home from deployment and proposes marriage to his cousin's widow, feeling she needs help with her dangerously ill little boy. Kristi accepts his proposal and he's off on deployment again. Then, when he returns, they both discover someone wants one of them dead.

The books races toward a satisfying ending from here on. Liz Johnson has created a plot that is terrifyingly real, with very believable characters and a wonderful spiritual theme. I enjoyed every minute and finished it in one day!

*I was give a preview copy of this book by the author. My review is my own honest opinion.
