I believe that for each and every woman the story of Mary and Martha resonates deep within our hearts. And then the struggle begins. How fair is it that Martha does all the work while Mary gets to just sit and listen at the feet of Jesus? Or perhaps the struggle ishow can Martha not understand that Mary has chosen the better thing? Waitaren't we supposed to be servants of Christ? How will the work get done if the women don't pick up the slack? Well, Joanna does a beautiful job of finding peace in the balance of work and worship. In Having a Mary Heart In a Martha World, Joanna walks us through to finding the balance that brings service from a deep and abiding relationship with Christ. She shows us how we can deepen our devotion and strengthen our service. All while doing less with a greater peace and joy. If you long for that intimate 'living room' relationship with Jesus...grab Joanna's book and a cup of coffee/tea and dig into it's treasures. You'll be glad you did!

Reading Joannas books have been a great lesson in learning to sit at the feet of Jesus. Far too often the busyness of life gets in my way, but Joannas words have a way of pulling me back and enabling me to refocus on my personal relationship with Christ. Her books are engaging and easy to read, filled with personal experiences and humor, all the while pointing you to Jesus.

Life Changing! Yes, for me, this book as been life changing. I am reading it for the 3rd time, as there is so much I don't want to forget. God has definitely been using this book to speak to my heart. I knew in my heart that I tended to be a Martha and I am so excited to be learning why and how to make the needed changes in my life. It would make a wonderful Bible Study for any group.

Responsibilities always seem to weasel into 'God time'.

One day you're all 'gung ho' about God, praying when you wake up, before every meal and before bed. You spend random times throughout the day just talking to God. You study your bible and sing songs on praise.

But then the next thing you know, you start promising 'God time' after lunch, when you finish this, when you get home, and at the end of the day you offer up a prayer that ends mid sentence because you fell asleep.

We live in a world all about the go. People are praised when they stay busy, and you're suppose to understand when someone "doesn't have time for reading the bible and praying today."

I'm definitely more of a Martha-things need to get done. But busy-ness breeds distraction, which weakenes one's relationship with God; He should be the number one thing in my life, and everything else will fall into place.

The main point of Having a Mary Heart in Martha World is to find a balance between our worship and service. We should be a combination of both Mary and Martha!

This isn't a quick read, there's a lot of information in this book, but it is an easy read. Written conversationally, with humor, care, and with many personal anecdotes, Joanna Weaver helps you find intimacy with God in one's busy hectic life. If you've ever found yourself in a sea of lists and to-dos, if you've ever felt overwhelmed with everything or feel like your life is getting in the way of your relationship with God, then this is the book for you! 5 out of 5!
