Sarah Mae, the author, is one of those women (by her own admission) that is often in the Mary only to neglect the Martha. This book started as a challenge to help women see the godliness and beauty in cleaning their home. And it's blossomed into this book helping women to keep their home clean while not neglecting their time with Jesus.

I am one of those women who often gets caught up in Martha only to neglect Mary or get caught up in Mary only to neglect Martha. And I am trying SO hard to balance the two. Thankfully there are devotionals which offer a nugget of scripture to savor when I am stuck trying to clean (which is very often with four children). I think the hardest part of this book was finding the time to read it. lol.

The only thing I would change is for it to be a hardback, but that's a personal preference of hardback to paperback books.

    {FYI: I received this book from the author Tyndale, in exchange for my HONEST opinion.}

I loved the balance in this book and the raw honesty of the author. Hearing pieces of her testimony revealing her journey to become a God-honoring housewife and help-meet showed me that I am not alone in this journey.

The book is set up with daily devotions launched with an inspirational quote and personal story. This then leads the reader to the Mary Challenge: sitting at the feet of Jesus. Readers are challenged to read specific scripture and prompted with provoking questions to dig into it in order to see the profound truths which can inspire us as both daughter's of God and caregivers to our family. Each Mary challenge is followed by a Martha Challenge, some cleaning task which helps bite off small chunks of the greater scope of keeping house and home.

The days on time, laziness and grace were by far my favorites, though my entire copy is marked up with stars, hearts and underlines for the tidbits I found truly inspiring. However, I think the greatest take-away for me is HOW I use my time. I already have planned to purchase it for some friends whom I know could use the encouragement!

It is NOT an in-depth study of God's word and should be used more supplamentally. Some time management isssues weren't addressed as specifically as I would have liked but the generalities were helpful. I am of the mind-set that it helps to awake before the household, not with or after it, and that a daily deep dose of God's Word is imperative to growing in Christ. I also didn't like one back of the book recomendation to go out and "buy it if you like it" in order to spruce up your home if you aren't 'feeling it'. But these were only 2 minor marks in a great scope of wonderful inspiration and why I gave it 4 stars.

All in all, Having a Mary Heart is a great book for anyone needing the valuable reminder of balance between our heart and our home. It is most helpful for those who have never experienced having a Martha home the Mary way but even old hats like myself could find pieces of gold in this treasure chest of information.

Do you ever feel like the art of housekeeping is lost to you? Life can be extremely busy and demanding. There is so much to do, so many places to go, commitments to keep, that keeping a tidy clean home can seem nigh to impossible. Personally, I master this only on very rare occasions and more often than not, I am feeling overwhelmed beneath the chaos. It seems to be a never ending goal of mine to do better.

Sarah Mae's book has heartfelt advice as well as tips for moms like me. Now I know there are some of you reading this who are born organizers and neat freaks. No offense intended, but some of us were not blessed with those genes and we need help

Thankfully this book is also about grace. Sarah says, " I'm gonna mess up and fail, but I am not a failure. I am literally a work in progress and I accept that." "So I walk, I fall; I walk, I fall; and all along I am available for him to mold."

After the introduction the book consists of 31 Days of house cleaning assignments. Each day has a Mary section, in which your relationship with God will be strengthened and encouraged. This section is for your heart. Then part two of that day is your Martha assignment, working your way through your home. Sarah also encourages you to get your children involved. The jobs are easy to handle and doable. There are lots of great tips in the back of the book too.

I believe this book is extremely beneficial spiritually and physically. Sarah advises giving yourself grace and seeing yourself through your heavenly Father's eyes. I am looking forward to working through this book in depth.

I received this book from Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book is just like exercise: if you WANT to do it, and COMMIT to do it, you WILL see change!

I found Sarah Mae's writing style to be friendly and encouraging. She wasn't better than me...she struggles with feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and tired...and comparing herself with someone else's 'clean' home.

I really enjoyed the Martha/Mary format to the book. Most of us fall into one of those categories...and need work on the other! Each chapter is short super short! No need to feel that this book will take hours to wade through, adding only one more overwhelming task to our day.

Sarah Mae writes a short, engaging chapter before giving the reader two challenges: a Mary challenge, which takes a look at God's Word to motivate and calm your soul; and then a Martha challenge, which motivates you to take on a simple cleaning task for that day to get your home back into order.

I really thought the book was wonderful and doable...and, again, I know it CAN work...IF I do it! So, if you need a little push, let Sarah Mae encourage and motivate you in 31 days to a marked difference in your home! You, too, CAN do it...if you WANT to and WILL!!

*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was given, and all thoughts are 100% mine.*

This book, oh how I loved it. Normally I jump right into the review. But this gorgeous cover deserves some love. The cover drew me right in. If there is one thing I can appreciate, it's a well designed cover. It has pretty watercolor flowers surrounding a beautiful hand-brushed script font. Such a perfect way to begin this book!

One of the first things that set this book apart for me was Sarah Maes confession that she isnt naturally great at cleaning! Hallelujah, me either! That instantly made me feel connected to her. And since she doesnt like cleaning herself, she isnt looking down on the reader. She just wants to come alongside you. This book is full of humor, grace and encouragement. And let's not forget honesty. Sara is honest about her own struggles and constantly offers room for mistakes, learning and differences in personality and style.

This book is written a little like a month devotional, it has a quick read section for each day of the month; a few pages of inspiration, a Mary Challenge, a journal-style page of devotions and questions, followed by a Martha challenge, with practical cleaning tasks and tips.

This book is filled with inspiration, personal insight, practical suggestions, daily activities, Bible verses for inspiration and questions to ponder, along with so much more. You can take each day as it comes, read the whole thing at once, address the Martha-housekeeping tasks, or focus on the Mary Bible-study. Its truly versatile, fantastic and flexible. Homemaking shouldnt be this daunting thing and it doesnt have to be, but we also need to keep our priorities and faith in order.

The most important takeaway from this book that I hope to apply to my life is it's not about judgement. It's not about do this, and do that. And if you don't, your a failure. It's just a gentle approach to housekeeping. It's about just doing the best you can. And when you've done your best, leave the rest up to God. Its about creating a home that is filled with that grace, so that you can pour it out on those who walk through your door. I hope to remember that, and cut myself some slack. I hope to create an environment in my home that overflows with grace and love.

Thank you to Tyndale Publishers for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
