Publisher's Description

Cinderella. Snow White. Sleeping Beauty. Rapunzel. These beloved stories all conclude with, ". . .and they lived happily ever after." We sigh, smile, and know there’s an amazing story of love, adventure, and redemption coming.
We all yearn for a fairy tale life, but too often our existence feels less like the pages of a storybook and more like a bad reality TV show. From poisoned apples (sin) and Ugly Stepsisters (joy-stealers) to magic mirrors (real beauty is more than skin-deep) and glass slippers (God’s perfect calling for us), the truth is that as daughters of God, we can live the perfect story the Author has written for our lives—we can experience the happily ever after that He has penned for us, now, regardless of our circumstances!
Writer, speaker, and surrogate fairy godmother Ginger Kolbaba offers encouragement, challenges, biblical insights, and a little humor on how God wants us to live and love our stories in the here and now.

Author Bio

Ginger Kolbaba is an accomplished, award-winning author, editor, and speaker. She has written or contributed to more than twenty books, including the Gold Medallion-nominated Refined by Fire (which also received a starred review in Publishers’ Weekly), the Golden Scroll-nominated Until We All Come Home, and her novel series Secrets from Lulu’s Café. She is a contributing writer for Thriving Family magazine, and has been a columnist for Let’s Worship. She has published more than 400 magazine and online articles.
Ginger’s heart is with women of all ages. Her greatest fun is when she can help them mature in their faith. In the publishing industry for almost two decades (she started very young), Ginger has been able to accomplish that in a number of different ways. She is the former editor of Today’s Christian Woman magazine, Marriage Partnership magazine, and the founding editor of Kyria.com, all award-winning resources of Christianity Today. She has spoken at national and international conferences, guest lectured at college campuses, and has appeared on national media outlets such as CNN Headline News (Nancy Grace), Court TV, Moody Midday Connection, and Family Life radio. She’s been quoted in national news outlets such as Newsweek and Chicago Sun-Times.
Ginger graduated summa cum laude with a BA in pre-law/American Studies and a double minor in theatre arts and Bible. After graduation she worked as a professional actress/singer (and in three shows in which she tap danced). Now a fulltime writer, speaker, and editor, she still occasionally dons her tap shoes and shuffles over her hardwood floors . . . much to the dismay of her husband and dog.

In Your Best Happily Ever After, Ginger Kolbaba argues that happily ever after is not a fairy tale; its a choice. (p. 305) She uses real life examples, wisdom from other writers and the Bible, and lighthearted humor to encourage her readers that happily ever after really is a possibility for each of us, and shows us how to choose it in small but significant ways. At first, I was put off by the humorous asides she uses to season her serious remarks, but Kolbaba snagged my interest and helped me rethink some of my own behavior. I especially appreciated her discussion of rest, thankfulness, and joy. Ill be putting her suggestions into practice. (Note: I was given a free copy in exchange for this honest review.)

This book had me simply by the title. Of course I had heard many stories that ended, "happily ever after," and who hasn't dreamed about finding theirs? So when I had the opportunity to receive the book in exchange for a honest review, I jumped! Then I got the book and found two added surprises purple font and crinkle edge pages which only added to the charm of this book. Now to the really good stuff, the actual book. Ginger Kolbaba takes the fairy tale stories, real life, and scripture and explains how we can find our own happily ever after. What I gained and loved the most from this book is this - no, life and our story isn't perfect like in the fairy tales but rather as Ginger writes it is a choice that we make to find and have our best happily ever after with God.

I grew up loving fairy tales - and, while the characters can go through all kinds of trials and difficulties, I still want the fiction I read to have that "happily ever after" ending. However, it doesn't take long to realize that any similarity between real life and fairy tales comes to a screeching halt at "The End.". . . But wait! There's a spiritual HEA that's available to every Christian, yet I suspect many aren't sure how to avail themselves of all that God freely gives for our daily walk. These spiritual blessings come during and in spite of life's dark times, and that's exactly what Ginger brings out in this book. Your Best Happily Ever After is not a book about marriage, but rather a book of life lessons, relationship lessons applicable to any situation.

First of all, the physical book is lovely in style, pages similar to popular devotional books with uneven edges, really appealing to hold in your hands. Each chapter revolves around a particular fairy tale or character, draws from applicable Scripture, and ends with points upon which to reflect. I don't think I've ever seen such an ingenious concept for a practical Christian living book! Who knew such impactful spiritual lessons could be drawn from Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White? Ginger's style is to capture your attention with her engaging prose, relatable personal stories, hilarious sense of humor, and then drive home her point. After reading this, I believe I'd pick up anything Ginger writes.

One thought that stood out to me is how "God answers our prayers by giving us opportunities to grow into those answers." For example, we might pray for patience, only to have God give us opportunities to show patience. And drawn from the story of Ruth in the Old Testament, "Faith is choosing, when we can't see the outcome, to believe that God will not let us fall."

While this book is certainly applicable to anyone, no matter where they are in their faith journey, I almost think it should be required reading for older teens, college age and young adults in general. Actually, I even think men would enjoy and benefit from it. Your Best Happily Ever After would make a great graduation gift.

    Highly recommended.

Thank you to Barbour Publishing for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

How is one to be happy despite the twists and turns of life? With tongue in cheek humor, even in the footnotes, Ginger points us to the author of all happiness, God.

I loved that she used Grimm's version of fairy tales to relate her message to modern day women. This book made me think, laugh and pray.

Sometimes books such as this are dry and uninteresting; not so with this one! Your Best Happily Ever After held my attention and my mind from the first page. And the cover is gorgeous!

Furthermore, this is my first encounter with Ginger Kolbaba and I look forward to more of the same.
