Tell us a little about yourself. Hi! My name is William Summers, author of Handbook for Righteous Living. My interests include music, reading, gardening, UFOs and Aliens, and conspiracy theories. I know! That's a rather broad range for someone who has also decided to author a book. I was a vocational agriculture instructor for 9 years before I pursuing a career in sales for the next 40 years.
I have served as VP and President of our local Lions Club and was a member of Village Council for 8 years. I have always been active in church, but never felt that I was truly saved until 2012 at the age of 65, which I explain in my book. And now at age 77, I continue to work part-time and cherish the peace, love and joy that I spend with my wife of 54 years, and our son, daughter, and grandson.
What was your motivation behind this project? I think what encouraged me to write the handbook was a calendar that I received from In Touch Ministries in 2019. I used the calendar to write down and memorize scripture from the Bible that helped me to break bad habits and grow in my Christian experience. And in 2024, I was inspired to use those pages of notes to write the Handbook for Righteous Living. I found it to be almost an obsession to produce and complete the book.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My sincere desire for writing the book is to reach those who are struggling, those who are lonely or feel ignored and unloved, and those who are dissatisfied with their life, or lost and don't know whether life is really worth living. Or perhaps those Christians who believe in God and in Jesus Christ, and may even be saved, but question their own faith.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? As a result of this project, I have developed a closer relationship with the Lord. I am focused daily on living a Christian life. And perhaps most important is the fact that I enjoy every day more than before. My marriage has become the relationship that I only dreamed of in the past.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have to say that my greatest influence, my greatest inspiration, has come from God and my in-depth study and desire to learn more about Jesus Christ. Although I may have experienced Jesus in my life in the past and felt God working in and through me since my early church attendance, I never felt that nearness and love that I feel now.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The world is changing! And although I read that church attendance is on the decline, I see a revival in Christianity. I see people being turning to Jesus and seeking salvation in a way that has been dormant for years. There is even what is being called a new revival among college students as a result of a campus ministry which is being presented by Unite Us. Students are being baptized by the hundreds.
