Habits of the Heartby Katherine J. Butler is a devotional that really makes you think and be better for it in time. Each week, readers will be focus on a specific theme, and each day additional topics that relates to that week. We start off with a Biblical verse or two and then a short and simple activity or words to ponder from the author. Easy to understand, yet powerful in its deliverance and meaning, the author's questions are insightful and allows readers to really consider and act on habitual exercises to "shape your heart to become more like Jesus."
The physical size (4.5 x 5.75 x 1" thick) of this devotional is handy and perfect to stow by your bedside, in your bag, in your car or just carry in your hand. The wood grain cover is pretty and rustic. Font size is just right and the contrast on the page allows for an easy and comfortable read. In all, Habits of the Heart is a great devotional inside and out. It'll make a great gift for yourself or a others, just in time for the holidays. Plus, the size allows it to fit easily in a stocking!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.
Deuce SkunksSpringfield, MOAge: 25-34Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5More than a devotional - learn simple habits to bring you closer to God, others, and yourselfNovember 18, 2017Deuce SkunksSpringfield, MOAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Habits Of The Heart: 365 Daily Exercises For Living Like Jesus by Katherine J. Butler is a pocket-sized yet powerful book designed to help you learn and form habits of lasting change to bring you closer to God and into a better relationship with yourself and those around you.
Focusing on one primary lesson each week (such as slowing down, living simply, trusting in God, and letting go), Katy devotes one page to each day of the journey toward "living like Jesus". Each day has a scripture verse (or two) and a short, simple, and effective exercise - an activity or a prayer or questions to reflect on. Moving us gradually through these 52 lessons, Katy helps us to each embark on an adventure in what it truly means to be closer to God on a daily basis.
The entries are marked by date (January 1st, March 2nd, etc) for those of you that manage to find the time, energy, and remembrance needed to stick to a strict daily regiment for an entire year. However, for those of us who tend to get behind on daily readings and then feel bad about skipping or trying to play catch up (raising my paw here), they are also marked by weeks and days (week 10, days 2 & 3). So, if you do get behind and end up skipping a few days, then don't fret and - more importantly - don't try to skip ahead to the correct date. Just go by the weeks and days, take it one message and lesson at a time, and figure eventually you'll still get through the book. Katy has done a marvelous job at arranging the lessons in a progressive fashion, and you don't want to miss out on any of the steps to reach the final destination.
My favorite feature of this book is that the pages in Habits Of The Heart are thick enough to give you the confidence that you'll be able to read and re-read this book many times over, without worrying about tearing or damaging it from the excessive use it's sure to receive. It also has a handy ribbon bookmark sewn into it to ensure that you'll never have to go searching for the next page in your journey. I would suggest this book as a daily read for anyone looking to form lasting habits to strengthen their relationship with God, others, and even themselves. 5/5 stars.

DanniAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good little DevoOctober 11, 2017DanniAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have to admit that when I read the features I was said to myself "who cares!!, Will it get me closer to Jesus!!" I wanted to make sure there was meat in this devotional to dig into and even maybe get me more into the Bible itself.
Despite this being a very adorable book, yes my friends there is meat to this book. Habits of the Heart has a theme that is walked through each day of the week. Each day having different scripture. Some of my favorite weeks were:
-Being Frugal (Week 44)
-Controlling you Tongue (Week 25)
-Keeping Sabbath (Week 32)
These are just a few that seemed so very important to me right now. Devotionals for me are not always easy to choose, partly because I am super picky and partly I think they can be either really good at asking the tough questions or really bad.
That being said, I believe I will be using this devotional as my devotional for next year. Well, because I think its really good!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
