Tell us a little about yourself. Hi I'm Andy. Great to meet you! I'm the author of a growing number of books - 55, I think, to date. In short, I love to communicate about things I value. Growing with Jesus is a good example of this. Most of my published work - by far - is aimed at children. In the late '80s I created a television series called "Gerbert" (which is still on the air, on YouTube, and other places on the internet). I write for adults, too, and more so all the time. An example of this is a book series I created called "GodMoments".
What was your motivation behind this project? A core verse and driving principle in my life is the importance of choices. Way back with Moses, God said: "I set before you life and death...CHOOSE life." God made choice central. "Growing with Jesus" is built around this reality. I want to write in a way that respects the reader (young reader in this case) to "taste and see that the Lord is good". I trust if she does, she will also CHOOSE to grow steadily closer to the One who loves her as only true LOVE can.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Stronger families. Stronger relationships. Stronger connections with the little ones you love. Reading together is a sacred space. "Growing with Jesus" is just one part of these intimate and precious moments. I hope that just as a house is built on a foundation, "Growing with Jesus" will serve as the framework that constructs the design on this little "homes".
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? The saying, "the teacher gets more out of the lesson than the student" was certainly true for me with "Growing with Jesus". Writing, for me, always a time of personal revelation, growth, conviction and blessing.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Easy - Calvin Miller. I devoured his Singer series. What a gift his books continue to be. Deep and yet so vibrant and his creativity was vast. I also found books that speak directly to issues very appealing such as "Mere Christianity" and "God is no Fool". Books are like conversations to me. I tend way more towards non-fiction - and write that way, too.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: It's familiar and short so be careful to not gloss over it: God is LOVE.
