IreneUnited States3 Stars Out Of 5March 2, 2011IreneUnited StatesQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3This is a very informative book about Catholic families and the Catholic religion. You will put the book down understanding what being a Catholic is all about.
The idea behind this book is for Evangelicals to understand the Catholic religion so they can better witness to them about their views of what being a Christian is all about.
Whether you want to witness to a person in the Catholic church or just better understand what Catholics believe, this book will help. The stories that are used for examples are easily understood. The author's personal examples are well placed and written. The end of the book has a section filled with discussion questions for each chapter.
I was given this book by christianreviewofbooks.com to review.
Randy Carruthers4 Stars Out Of 5April 21, 2010Randy CarruthersIt was good to read about the journey of someone who came out of Rome and about the reasons why many are becoming disenchanted with the RCC. Castaldo gave some good insights into what it like to live under the authority of the Magisterium and how we Evangelicals can help others come out from under its shadow in a redemptive manner. I agree that one of the key issues is Rome's claim to be the only infallible authority to interpret the Scriptures, a claim which is contrary to the biblical truth of sola Scriptura. However, I think the more critical issue is the heart of the gospel, justification. The imputation of our sin to Christ and the imputation of Christ's righteousness to us (2 Cor. 5:21), the "blessed exchange," is denied by the RCC and, consequently, Roman Catholic teaching negates the Word of God.
