Your head sits heavily in your hands as the last employee turns out the last light and goes home for the night, leaving you alone in the dark with your failure and desperation. This scene is played-out daily in offices all over America, as leaders in corporations, churches, and organizations free-fall from moral or ethical failure.
Wayde Goodall has observed this quagmire for decades, counseling those who have thrown away their families and their futures for a moment of pleasure or profit. Profiling well-known leaders who've had a fall from grace, Goodall notes the common traits, warning signs, and most importantly, a plan for avoiding such deadly traps of the soul.
For everyone who has found himself in this terrible dilemma, and to those who can still avoid it, this book is like a beacon. There is a fail-safe guide for remaining on the right path, and Why Great Men Fall illustrates that safe route in a riveting way.
- One after the other, great men are falling like dominoes as they defy the profound wisdom of Scripture, make themselves into their own god and satisfy their most base desires. If you are already experiencing substantial fame, power or wealth or, more importantly, if you are approaching that possibility in your life, this well be one of the most important books you will ever read.

Issues such as Compartmentalization, Sex, Integrity, Stress, Money, or Ethics. While I was excited to receive the book and jumped right in to reading it I have to admit I was deeply disappointed in it's content. For starters, it didn't contain anything new and I found the writing less interesting to follow than many other men's books I have read in the past. There are other authors I would point men to (Patrick Morley and John Eldredge come to mind off the top of my head) before giving them this book. It's not that the book didn't contain good content, because it does, but the content has been written before by other authors, authors whom I prefer to read (given the choice).
On top of that, the physical structure of the book was distracting. I know we shouldn't "judge a book by its cover", and I'm not doing that. What I'm talking about are small margins and what feels like a larger page than most books - it gave the impression that stuff was crammed in to save money, which made me ask the question, "Is it really that important to read after all?"
Again, content was fine, just not overly insightful. I'll give it 1.5 out of 5 stars.
I received this book free from New Leaf Publishers as part of their Blogger Review Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. This is one of the best practical books for leaders I've read. Men in leadership are subject to being in the cross-hairs of the enemy daily. This book takes the bullets out of the enemy's gun.
David R. Bess5 Stars Out Of 5February 23, 2006David R. BessGoodall here has the courage to tackle a subject that has been overlooked or unmentioned in Christian books today -- the pitfalls of male Christian leadership. The author directly addresses 15 key areas to which leaders should give attention. From my knowledge and experience of ministry, his words are extremely relevant.I recommend this book very highly to all male Christian leaders, especially pastors. Being aware of our weaknesses and points of vulnerability is the first step towards safeguarding our integrity. This title is an excellent investment and addition to one's library.
