Grasping God's Word: A Hands on Approach to Reading, Interpreting, and Applying the Bible has proven itself in classrooms across the country as an invaluable help to students who want to learn how to read, interpret, and apply the Bible for themselves.
Now in a third edition, slight changes to the text have been made based on feedback from professors and students. Thus, it is more equipped than ever to meet the demands of the classroom and students seeking knowledge about the Bible and proper ways of understanding it. As such, this book will continue to serve college-level students and lay learners well in their quest to gain a firm grasp on the rock of God's word.
Old Testament scholar J. Daniel Hays and New Testament expert J. Scott Duvall provide practical, hands-on exercises to guide students through the interpretive process. To emphasize the Bible's redemptive arc and encourage correlation across the canon, the authors have included a call to 'cross into the rest of Scripture' as an additional step in the Interpretive Journey.
The new edition has also been rearranged for clarity and includes updated illustrations, appendices, bibliography, and assignments. A website for professors offers extensive teaching materials, and an accompanying revised workbook (Grasping God's Word Workbook ---sold separately) gives students additional practice in reading and interpreting the Bible.

Easy to follow.September 28, 2013jadwellCentral IllinoisGender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I was looking for a book that would teach a group of college students how to study the Bible. Good hands-on activities. This text was perfect. Well written, easy to follow, scholarly but not over the heads of my students. Wish I had found it earlier.
Q: Is it worth upgrading? Does anybody here know the difference between the 2nd & 3rd editions? I own the 2nd. Is it worth upgrading to the 3rd edition? Can somebody clue me in? Thanks.
The third edition just has slight changes made to the text based on feedback received since the second edition came out.
