I have the level 3 for my 2nd grader as well as the level 1 for my kindergartener and they both just love these. They look forward to doing enough lessons so they can do some of the quizzes/drills. The full color and little pictures and the general layout really help keep them moving forward and wanting to learn more. The spiral approach works well for this age, IMO. With my older kids, I had such a hard time finding the right fit for math and we have bounced around between products but I'm happy to report that these Abeka books are exactly what we needed.

I am a big fan or Abeka elementary arithmetic, though I will say, even right off the bat (we're on page 19) the workload is a HUGE step up from second grade... It can take us a very long time to get through a lesson, between 30 and 50 minutes! Well organized and effective, though.

Arithmetic 3 has been alright, I'm not super thrilled with it, but it gets the job done for my 3rd grader. He picks up math very easily, I don't think this book would work otherwise. The biggest issue I have with this book is that there is a huge error on lesson 146 the problem they use to teach the concept is totally wrong. Luckily my son already knew this concept and crossed it out and wrote wrong all over. That being said I had hoped that buying a highly rated curriculum it would have been properly edited. I guess I will be looking for another source for next years math.
