I love days when I can sit down and read a Max Lucado book. I so enjoy his writing style and am glad that I had the opportunity to read his new book Grace. I think this book is another great piece as it explores the grace of God. The stories that he shares are relevant and help to paint a clearer picture of the point he is trying to get across. One of my favorite stories that he shares is that of a missionary physician and his daughter. The story is in the eighth chapter called "Feared Dethroned". I absolutely love this story as it illustrates how God knows our needs before we do. His grace is truly sufficient. Max also gets personal in this book as he shares how he has experienced the grace of God through his struggle with alcohol.

I highly recommend this book if you want to learn more about the Grace of God. For readers who like to do further study there is a Reader's Guide for each chapter starting on page 157. I like how the Reader's Guide is set-up as each chapter contains the following: Grace Reading, Review Scripture, Ask, Call on God and Explore Grace-Shaped Living.

I've long enjoyed Max Lucado's writing. This book is no exception. In fact, aside from his children's picture books, which I adore, Grace is my favorite.

In his wonderfully relatable writing style, Lucado describes a grace that is "more verb than noun, more present tense than past tense." Through Biblical narratives and personal stories, he demonstrates that grace "didn't just happen; it happens."

Familiar Bible stories are written in such a way as to draw us in and make us a part of each one, all the while showing us a God who doesn't just dole out grace, but who is grace Himself. The text includes honest confessions about some of Lucado's failures and how they were redeemed by grace.

Supporting Scripture and encouraging phrases dot the pages of Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine,

offering us freedom from the burden of guilt and failure.

While there are parts of Lucado's book that I am still exploring in relation to Scripture (which I encourage everyone to do whenever strong Biblical statements are made), generally, it is a quick read–and a compelling one.

Besides being a great stand-alone read, this book would make for a wonderful small-group Bible study. For just such purposes, Lucado includes a chapter-by-chapter Reader's Guide in the back of the book, and there is a Grace Bible study on DVD, including a participant's guide.

If you want to take your understanding of grace to a deeper level ... if you want to discover grace as "more than we deserve, greater than we can imagine," pick up a copy of this book. Rest in His promise and ...

"Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 2:1).

(Thomas Nelson Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through BookSneeze® in exchange for an honest review.)

What is grace? We sing about it in the hymn Amazing Grace. We talk about it in our churches, but do we understand it? Describing Grace in a way only Lucado can, "This book asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God's grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downess about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret-riddles to better-because-of-it. From afraid-to-do to ready-to-fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. When grace happens, we receive not a nice compliment from God but a new heart...You might call it a spiritual heart transplant."

Another book about Grace. I was so excited to get this but also a little worried that it would be another ho hum book about Grace. I started reading the book and had to force myself to put it down and get some sleep. Max Lucado did an awesome job writing this book. He is real about the subject of grace and forces you to look outside of yourself to see if you are living in and accepting God's grace. I finished this book and was happy to see a reading guide at the end, it makes me want to pick the book back up again and read through it using the guide, which I may just do. Grace is not a book you want to pass up. It is such a well written, real, and honest look at God's grace.
