I know I sound like a broken record, but I just can't help it! Whenever I see the name Kim Vogel Sawyer on a book, I know it's going to be great. And I was certainly not disappointed with Grace and the Preacher.
As always, Kim has given us characters that literally leap off the page with life. I felt the heart and soul of Grace, Theo, Uncle Philemon, and others as I walked through their stories with them. Innocent mistakes and deliberate deceit led to adventures filled with joys and pains that kept me totally engaged and eager to see how all the jumble could be unraveled and put back together. Kim crafted a beautiful tale of love and grace that was a delight to read and provided splendid nuggets for thought like the following:
"If Jesus said it, we oughtta do it."
"He has to be first. Because if He's not first, then we can't be whole."
Fans of great inspirational fiction should thoroughly enjoy this captivating historical story. Thanks to the author and her publisher for sharing a copy of Grace and the Preacher. I am delighted to share my thoughts in this review.

The reader follows the main characters Grace and Theo through deception, revelation, pain and finally forgiveness through God's grace. There are a couple side stories that the reader will enjoy as well. One of a man who God works on and changes his heart and the other a sweet love story. You will not want to miss reading this book. Melissa5 Stars Out Of 5Grace and the PreacherMarch 11, 2017MelissaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Book description: "At the age of twenty-three, postmistress Grace Cristler has all but given up hope of finding a husband among the narrowing group of eligible men in her town of Fairland, Kansas. But when her uncle decides to retire from the pulpit, Grace is responsible for corresponding with the new preacher set to take his place. She cant deny the affection growing in her heart for Reverend Rufus Dillea man she deeply admires but has only met through his letters.
Theophil Garrison is on the run from his past. Ten years ago his outlaw cousins convinced him to take part in a train robbery, but Theo fled the scene, leaving his cousins to face imprisonment. Now theyve finished their sentences, but the plan for vengeance has just begun. Branded a coward and running for his life, Theo has a chance encounter that could provide him with the escape he needs.
But the young mans desperate con might come at an enormous price for the tenderhearted Graceand the entire town. Will Graces undeserved affection and Gods mercy make something beautiful from the ashes of Theos past?"
My review: I loved the idea that was implied in the description and knew that I had to read this book! It was exactly as I expected and made for a great plot. I don't want to include any spoilers in this review, but I will say that this is a book that will keep you turning pages and even chuckling some as you go. Grace is a bit unrealistic at times, but in this case it just seems to add to the story and make her even more lovable. The sub plot adds a whole other dimension to the book as well that compliments the rest of the story. This is a book I highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Trixi5 Stars Out Of 5God's plans aren't always mans!March 5, 2017TrixiQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5It has been a while since I've read a novel by this wonderful author and when I was given the chance to, I jumped at it! I'm so glad I did as this was one story that captured me from the get-go. First of all, being set in the year 1882, it's my favorite time period to read. Historical novels hold a special place in my heart and this was certainly no exception. This story mainly takes place in a small town called Fairland, Kansas where we meet our first characters Grace Cristler & her uncle Philemon--who, after many years in the pulpit, is stepping down as the Pastor. The town anticipates the arrival of Rufus Dille, fresh from seminary and ready to take up the reins (if you will) to serve as the towns new Preacher. Meanwhile in Cooperville, Missouri Theophil Garrison learns of his three cousins release from prison after 10 years. Since he was responsible for putting them there, decides to hightail it out of town and return to his hometown in Iowa. Little does he know, he embarks on an adventure he had no way of anticipating & his life turns completely upside down!
I loved the characters, the setting and the depth of this! We also meet Bess, widow and boarding house owner. She takes Grace under her wings and teaches her many lessons of the heart, especially great spiritual ones. She's a warm and welcoming character that I could even call my own grandma-type. There's so much that happens in this story that I never knew which direction it would take me, it had me guessing all the way through. Over-laced with a deep and abiding faith, you can see how each character grew in the Lord. You can also see His hand in orchestrating the events that happen, even ones nobody saw coming! There are times where I laughed, gasped in surprise, cheered, and even had tears in my eyes. I love seeing how hearts change when God gets a hold of someone! A wonderful story of redemption, renewal in Christ, characters who grow on you and of course, the happily-ever-after I love to read at the end.
My favorite line in the book, page 323: "He (God) has to be first. Because if He's not first , then we can't be whole." A great reminder to myself to seek Him first, love Him first and make Him my all in all!

Once again, another great novel by Kim Vogel Sawyer. The story was a fantastic lesson in trusting God to send the one your heart loves. We get to see Grace, and Theo, the young man pretending to be her new pastor, grow in faith together. I loved Grace, she never gave up. It is such a beautiful, sweet story rich in faith, with characters we can all relate to.
