"Kim Vogel Sawyer paints characters with exquisite detail emotionally and physically, then sets them in a story that transports the reader into a world equally as appealing as the people who live there. A captivating read, leaving you wanting more."
Lauraine Snelling, author of To Everything a Season, Wake the Dawn, and Heaven Sent Rain
"The Great Depression was an era that required much grit and a great will to survive. Kim Vogel Sawyer has captured that spirit with characters full of determination, rich in heart, and strong in a sense of compassion. Room for Hope is not merely a nice novel or a touching story. It is a story of our heritage, a story of what it takes to live a life of mercy and love for the least of these. It is a story of reliance on God during the darkest of days. It is a look into our past to see that, truly, we are not all that different from our grandparents. It is our story."
Susie Finkbeiner, author of A Cup of Dust: A Novel of the Dust Bowl
"When Mercy Rains is a beautiful testimony to the power of forgiveness. With three generations of characters to fall in love with, Kim Vogel Sawyers new novel kept me turning pagesand discovering surprisesto the very end. I especially enjoyed the Kansas setting and the restoration of a homestead that was a beautiful reflection of the restoration of hearts and minds."
Deborah Raney, author of The Face of the Earth and the Chicory Inn Novels series
"A compelling cast of authentic characters, heart-wrenching mistakes and responses, and love, redemption, and restoration make When Mercy Rains by Kim Vogel Sawyer a must-read masterpiece."
Mona Hodgson, author of The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series, The Quilted Heart omnibus, and Prairie Song
"Quite simply, I loved this story from page one until the end. Kim has created a story that lovingly depicts the people, land, and culture of Appalachia. Guide Me Home is a tale of love and hope and faith that will hold your heart long after you reach the end."
Laurie Alice Eakes, author of The Mountain Midwife, 2016 Rita Finalist
"Kim Vogel Sawyers historical novels always delve deep into the characters hearts. Room for Hope is a beautiful story with an unusual twist. Yes, I cried… A definite page-turner, this story kept my attention to the very end."

It had seemed like a good idea. On the run from his vengeful cousins, Theophil Garrison made a split second decision, he "became" the much anticipated new preacher, Reverend Rufus Dille, whom everyone in the small town of Fairland, Kansas had been anticipating, including the lovely postmistress, Grace Cristler. Somehow it had escaped Theo's thinking that he would actually have to pray, lead worship, and deliver sermons.
Something about the new preacher seems a little "off" to Grace, having corresponded with him for so many months, she cannot merge the man in her letters with the man in her midst. As "Rufus" becomes more comfortable with his job description and the congregants that he is serving, her concerns seem misplaced; besides, her feelings for the handsome young minister are deepening by the day, aren't they?
Enjoy this sweet story of amazing grace!
KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Captivating Inspirational RomanceJune 27, 2017KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5A sweet and touching romance develops in the midst of deceit. My tummy was in knots trying to figure a way for things to work out. I thought it might be hard to connect with the hero given his desperate con, but that's just what it is -- desperation and Sawyer does a wonderful job of appealing to a reader's tender heart where Theo is concerned. I totally got the way he fell into the con and what made it so hard for him to get out. And since he's totally not what the town expects in a new preacher there's some pretty funny moments that brings levity to all that desperation.
Grace is dealing with her own kind of desperation. On the shelf at twenty-three with no prospects in sight, she's fallen for the soon-to-be-new preacher through the letters she's been exchanging on behalf of her uncle who happens to be the retiring reverend. But Rufus Dille isn't anything like she expected he'd be when they actually meet. He keeps her discombobulated even as she is drawn to his shy sincerity.
I love how this author expertly weaves faith into the very fibre of her stories and it is front and center here. And I love the title tie-in as it can be taken in different ways. Very clever. And impactful. All in all a captivating inspirational historical romance.

The characters were very engaging and believable. Grace was a sweet young woman who desperately wanted to marry and have a family. She had such high hopes for the new preacher she had been corresponding with for several months. Theo is a young man on the run from vengeful cousins recently released from prison. After he plays "good Samaritan" to a fellow traveler, circumstances create a mistaken identity, and he makes some fateful choices. His cousin, Earl, is on a mission to find Theo, to exact revenge. I wasn't expecting what happened when he found Theo. This book is about following God's leading and allowing him to be first in their lives, forgiveness, and grace. Kim Vogel Sawyer's books always have characters who are flawed but she shows how God's grace and love make a difference in their lives.
tammycookblogsbooks5 Stars Out Of 5Redemption brings people togetherJune 3, 2017tammycookblogsbooksQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Grace and the Preacher is a sweet romance, full of characters I really enjoyed getting to know. I liked how Kim showed their different journeys of growing in their faith in God. Stories set in the late 1800's are among my favorites, as I enjoy reading about the way of life back then. Kim portrays this era well. Reading through Grace and the Preacher. I think we easily see the importance of sharing our faith with others. It truly changes their lives, although maybe not right away. There is a lot of heart transformation occurring in this book. Redemption is also a part of this novel that brings people together, joining them by the common thread of faith. I was provided a complimentary review copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I love how Grace and Theo get together. It was great getting to know Theo and Grace. Many of these characters learn to trust in God again or for the first time. I laughed and cried throughout this book. This was such a fun read. I received a copy of this book from blogging for books for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
