M. Kessel5 Stars Out Of 5August 2, 2008M. KesselThis DVD is an excellent addition to any southern gospel music library. The classic footage shows many who are no longer with us or no longer travel the gospel music circuit. I would say this particular broadcast aired around 1970. Today's groups cannot emulate the performances on this video. Most of the performances were done with live musicians. The first song features all of the Florida Boys on an instrument playing and singing "There's Power in the Blood." The Happy Goodman family had guitars, drums (Ricky had not been with them very long), and Howard on the piano (this was right before Eddie Crook started playing for them). Personally, I enjoyed Howard's powerful singing and showmanship on the piano. The Dixie Echoes had Sue Whitfield on the piano and a guitar player. Glen Allred of the Florida Boys helped them out by playing the bass guitar. Wendy Bagwell and the Sunlighters had Wendy and Jan on guitars (Jan played the harmonica on the intro and "turnaround" of on particular song, then, started playing the bass when the intro or interlude was finished. One of Steve Sander's performances, I believe, was him lip singing to one of his albums because his sung and spoken words throughout the song are not synchronized with his actual lip movements. That is the only flaw on the show. I hope they add more volumes to this series.
