Have you ever felt like theres a higher calling for your life? Something more than the mundane weekly routine of work, eat, sleep, play, and church? In Godspeed, Britt Merrick challenges us to step out of our little, self-centered lives and step into Gods grand missionHis plan to restore, redeem, and renew the world.
Your heart has been aching for something more, and this is it. Join His mission and change the world.
Britt Merrick is the founding pastor of Reality, a family of churches with locations in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Stockton, Boston, and London, England. He is the author of Big God and is the pastor for Preaching and Vision at Reality Santa Barbara. Britt lives and surfs in the area with his wife, Kate, and their two children, Isaiah and Daisy.
Amid a slew of titles encouraging Christians to become more missionalintentionally pursuing Gods mission in everyday lifeveteran surfer-pastor Merrick (Big God) urges his readers to adopt Missio Christi. Missio Christi, a term coined at Merricks multi-location Reality Church in California, is the essence of living life at Godspeed. It is living the way Jesus Christ did, reaching out and changing the world through ministry to the marginalized poor and sufferers. To spur his readers to go and do the same, the author exhorts, encourages, and equips with the characteristic no-nonsense discourse of a surfer swapping stories on the beach. Pulling no punches, Merrick indicts the American Christian church for its judgmental past and encourages American Christians to reclaim their sense of sent-ness as Gods missionaries within their own community. The book is best digested in part two, with its practical applications, called a playbook for mission based on the historical life of Jesus. Merrick utilizes personal stories, everyday analogies, and meaningful metaphors to bring his points home. Lacking theological depth, his populist, surfer-style approach will certainly prove inspirational for everyday Christians. (June) 2012 Reed Business Information

Little G4 Stars Out Of 5GodspeedOctober 27, 2016Little GQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4It's a good book as I quickly reviewed it. Maybe after I have more time to actually read it I may be able to give a better reader's review.
IolaNew ZealandAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Challenge to the ChurchJuly 2, 2012IolaNew ZealandAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Godspeed: Making Christ's Mission Your Own is specifically directed at American Christians, but the principles apply in other Western countries. It would be easy for me, sitting here in New Zealand, to say that because this book is specifically focussed on American Christians, it is not talking about me, my friends or my church. But it is. While the American church might display more of the faults Merrick speaks of, that is merely a function of size. Those same faults exist in New Zealand and in England (where I lived for ten years), and no doubt in other countries too.
Merrick speaks about "Incarnational Christianity", which means that "we're called out of the world in worship to God while being sent into the world as witnesses of God". This struck me as an interesting point, and one that many Christians miss. I know many Christians who homeschool their children to prevent them being influenced by worldly things, yet Merrick would say they were missing half the message.
As with many of the best Christian non-fiction books, the author is giving their personal testimony, sharing what has impacted and changed their life. It is 'I found' rather than the lecturing 'you should' tone that some authors take. Godspeed is much more readable and teachable because of that underlying spirit of humility.
The message of Godspeed runs the risk of being obscured by the vocabulary. It became much more readable after the author starts using more everyday language. Well worth reading, if you can get past the opening chapters.

IreneUnited States4 Stars Out Of 5A good book for better understandingJune 3, 2012IreneUnited StatesQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4What is your purpose as a Christian? What about the purpose of your church? Are you willing to make the sacrifices to follow your God given mission?
This book leads you to a better understanding of what it means to follow Christ. The author uses the life of Jesus here on earth as a guide. If you are a Christian then the Lord does have a certain purpose for you. According to this book finding that purpose is actually easy, you just need to use Jesus as your example.
There is helpful information in the book that will guide you to a better understanding of what you should be doing to further the message of Jesus. I found most of this book to be interesting but parts were tedious so I only gave the book 4/5 stars.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
