John Piper (DTheol, University of Munich) is the founder and teacher of desiringGod.org and the chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary. He served for 33 years as the senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is the author of more than 50 books, including Desiring God, Dont Waste Your Life, This Momentary Marriage, A Peculiar Glory, and Reading the Bible Supernaturally.
JONATHAN EDWARDS (17031758) was a pastor, theologian, and missionary. He is generally considered the greatest American theologian. A prolific writer, Edwards is known for his many sermons, including "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", and his classic Treatise Concerning Religious Affections. Edwards was appointed president of the College of New Jersey (later renamed Princeton University) shortly before his death.
As in all of Pipers books, the format is simple, the wording understandable, and the depths profound. Divided into two sections, each part flows into the other, leading the reader upwards. In Part One, Piper explains why he decided to publish this book, looks at Edwards physical and spiritual life, and considers the impact Edwards has on modern evangelical Christianity. Part Two explains how Piper has prepared this thesis for the reader, suggests methods of reading, and takes a look at the particular edition Piper chose to use. Edwards The End for Which God Created the World then follows, replete with footnotes. Several effective indices conclude this volume.
This in-depth look at the foundation of our passion for God is crucial reading. Pipers books are dedicated to leading us into ever-growing desire for God. Gods Passion for His Glory capably achieves this aim. This is a book to take your time reading. You'll find value in pausing now and then while reading to think, meditate, pray, and to wait before your Lord. Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com
