My daughter is 4 yrs. old and loves reading this with me every night for our special time together, and so do I which is why I gave it 4 stars.
Pros: Covers different Bible characters in good detail and for some it has a complete layout of the story to act out with your daughter. Nice little info pages throughout on being beautiful inside and out for a little girl. I also liked the songs and scripture verses, as well as what to pray together. My daughter loves the pictures of princess crowns, hearts, and little girls throughout the book. Beautiful color throughout the book.
A great book to get your daughter to "think" about real people and situations in life and how to help others while working on herself (inside).
Cons: When I first bought it I thought it was an actual "Bible" with little lessons throughout, this is not the case. It is more of a story book but without the pictures of the Bible characters, and only select Bible stories. The only thing that is frustrating is that you never know really where you are in the Bible or the book. It is hard to know where to read and where to stop for the night. The book is color coordinated :blue, pink, purple, orange, green- repeat. But sometimes the lesson starts on blue and sometimes another color. Sometimes the lesson takes up all the color pages and sometimes only one. Not all of the books of the Bible are in there and many of the books only have one page which is just a couple of verses of the book.
In conclusion, It all depends what you are looking for. If you want to get some good Bible truths to your daughter or granddaughter who is already getting a mix of the secular world (mentions of Snow White and Cinderella) then this is a wonderful book for her. If you are looking for a Bible with more depth to it and one that only focuses on the Bible and Bible characters then don't buy this book. I like to use it as a step to the Bible. I can read her a little from this book to spark interest, and then read the full story in the Bible another time. The book says for ages 4 to 7, but because we want to go into more depth with her we will probably only use this book till she is 5 or 6 yrs old. We also bought "God's Mighty Warrior Devotional Bible".
I hesitate to give this book a negative review, because I read dozens of positive ones when I was considering this purchase. My 5-year old daughter loves the glittery, bejeweled cover and the quaint drawings scattered throughout the book. I like the balance of Scripture story, discussion, and questions or activities. What could be improved upon, however, is the connection between the Bible story and the point of the lesson. The story is quite a short excerpt, so I usually add background and details so that it makes better sense. The discussion that follows is also brief, which I understand because of the target age, but the story isn't always tied directly in to the lesson. Most mornings, I find myself improvising a "paragraph" into the lesson which begins, "In today's story, this can be seen in the way..." Overall, this is a nice book for a young girl, but I wish these connections had been made to make the lessons more accessible.
